Seeing Through the Trauma

Between Scylla and Charybdis (49)

Apparently it was possible to feel even smaller when Wukong sent him a wink before he began to grow too, body shifting and changing into something just as terrifyingly big. The reassuring look he'd seen on his baba's face was nothing like the three expressions he now had.

MK could only see them with his golden vision, too far away even though Wukong's feet were so close to him, his freaking toe bigger than MK's entire body. 

If Erlang was ginormous then Wukong was monstrously big, power radiating off him just from standing close to him. The air could never be thick enough to hold the weight of his shock, unable to look away as the giant, golden, three-headed figure lunged at the other one, shoving them both into the ocean in one step. 

They didn't even fall, just stepped off the mountain and into the water that reached around their ankles and yet the entire ground shrieked and cried with surprise, the earth shaking and quivering, the entire mountainside groaning in displeasure as stones from the top crashed down with the instability.    

MK too, felt the tremor under his feet, tail swinging wildly to right himself as he tipped to the side but he didn't dare blink, afraid of missing a single moment of watching the titans fight. With something so big and magnanimous, there was nothing MK could feel but awe so strong it was terrifying. 

He felt like an ant, tiny and insignificant and able to be crushed at any second without notice or hesitation and he was eye-wateringly glad when Wukong's insurmountable arms grabbed Erlang's and threw him further out to sea away from the mountain.

For them, it was still probably still only a step away, but the distance was hundreds of yards to MK as he watched the colossal wave from their steps crash onto the beach of the island. Any trees that were on the beach's edge were submerged under the water and MK was glad to be higher up on the mountain, away from the tsunami if that was what happened when they just moved. 

He hated to see what would become of this home if either of them fell over. 

As though hearing MK's unspoken thought, Erlang's hands swung toward one of Wukong's three heads, spear proportionately large and thrust forward with intent to tear through his opponent.

Wukong's hand moved to stop it, grabbing it, and the misplaced air from the stopped blow was so intense MK could feel it all the way from where he stood like a gust of light wind.     

It tussled in his head and patted his cheeks and MK's hung open in shock at the magnitude of their size. He had heard of Wukong's war form of course, remembered Tang telling him the story and finding it awesome that the Monkey King was so badass and then had been sad when the monkeys had been scared by it too because Monkey King never used it after that. 

So he knew it was a thing, but even in his imagination, he couldn't have pictured something so utterly terrifying and colossal. He hadn't understood in the story why the monkeys had been scared when it was their own king fighting for them, but now he did, his body reacting to the sheer size of such a leviathan near his presence and his legs trembling.  

Wukong's hand grabbed Erlang's other arm before he could pull back and swung him like a discus, spinning him further out to sea where the ocean almost reached their knees. The rippling waves sloshed against the shore of the island even from this distance and the giant figure of Erlang roared, swiping at one of Wukong's heads. 

Wukong ducked under it and punched him in the jaw with a crack that sounded like thunder, sending the celestial stumbling back with a grunt, a leg kicking out to stabilize himself in the deeper waters. 

All it did was splash ungodly amounts of water, enough to be a mini tsunami but a light splash to Wukong and as it sloshed against the beach of the mountain MK wondered if they were all doomed to drown during this fight like the insignificant specs they were, fear for Macaque and Nezha coming back full force.
