[T]ilting your head slightly, you caught sight of a teenage girl with a stern gaze, glasses perched on her nose, and green hair tied back in a ponytail.

Beside her stood two teenage boys, and to your surprise, a peculiar-looking panda.

Confusion swept over you. Were these teenagers really planning to execute you? Or was there something you were missing out here?

Before you could collect your thoughts, the girl pressed the blade menacingly against your shoulder.

"Ah... I was told to come here for... umm... protection?" you stammered, feeling utterly lost.

"What in the world?" the girl exclaimed, her annoyance evident. "Just because you were told to come, you think you can stroll in here like you're taking a walk in the park, huh? And what's master Tengen doing? Shouldn't the protective barriers be up and running?"

You blinked in confusion, trying to make sense of her words.

"Maki, calm down," the panda interjected, gesturing for her to relax. "Give her a chance to explain."

As you processed the surreal scene, one of the teenage boys spoke up.

"Salmon," he said calmly and you recognized him as the slim-built boy with light skin, purple eyes, and off-white mid-length straight hair.

Half of his face was concealed beneath the collar of his dark blue jacket. You couldn't help but notice that, except for the talking panda, all three teenagers were dressed in almost similar attire.

But what struck you as even more peculiar was the nonchalant way the boy had dropped the word "salmon" into the conversation, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

Then again, in a world where pandas could talk, perhaps nothing was truly out of the ordinary.

As Maki's frustration grew, she turned to her friends for support.

"Argh! Not you too, Toge! Can't you see she's suspicious?" she reasoned, her tone almost pleading.

Then directed her attention to the boy who wore a white jacket over pants of a similar color to his peers.

Upon closer inspection, you noticed the katana strapped to his back.

"Well," Yuta began, his face marred by dark circles and eye bags, "she could be a new teacher, couldn't she?"

Maki seemed to consider this possibility, her demeanor softening slightly as she turned back to you, her gaze piercing.

"Are you?" she demanded, her voice sharp.

You shook your head. "No, I'm not."

"Then a new student, perhaps?" she pressed further.

Again, you denied it.

Yuta's expression turned stern, his hand inching toward the hilt of his weapon.

"I can't sense an ounce of curse energy in you. So how did you even enter? This isn't a place accessible to non-sorcerers," he questioned, his voice laced with suspicion.

You were dumbfounded, searching for answers yourself.

Cursed energy? You knew what that was, but you had always been warned to keep it under control because of its danger.

But non-sorcerers? What did he mean by that?

"Told ya! I'm gonna beat the truth out of her, you'll see," Maki growled, her irritation reaching its peak as she flipped her spear and attempted to strike you with the blunt end.

Reacting at an almost impossible speed, you kicked off the ground and propelled yourself backward, narrowly avoiding the attack.

Well, you really messed up this time.

You should've just let her hit you, but no, you had to dodge, making yourself look like a threat.

Before you knew it, Yuta had unsheathed his blade with lightning speed, infusing it with cursed energy, while Maki unleashed a barrage of strikes that you somehow narrowly managed to avoid.

The panda-looking thing was suddenly out of sight, until someone reappeared behind you, kicking you in the side as you were busy dodging.

The attack struck one of the bags you had strapped on your shoulder, propelling you across the ground with a couple of roll over, skidding on the gritty ground before coming to a halt.

Instinctively, your reaction was to roll to your knees and attempted to inspect the bag that took the hit, only to be interrupted by Salmon guy's command.

"Bind!"

Invisible ropes materialized, wrapping tightly around you, and restricting your movements.

You gritted your teeth as you summoned every ounce of strength you had within you to try and break free.

"Stop it!" Maki shouted, smacking you on the head with the back of her staff. "A mere human shouldn't be able to break free from these bindings—"

Or so she was saying until you successfully managed to break through the binds with sheer force alone. Yuta, noticing your resistance, called forth his cursed spirit, "come out, Rika!"

You barely had the time to react when the spirit crashed into you, pushing you backward with incredible force. You struggled to hold your ground, locking arms with the spirit as it pushed you further and further back.

The intense standoff finally came to an end, your heavy breathing filled the air, punctuated by the rhythmic drip of blood to the ground.

Glancing down, you noticed a wound on your wrists, likely from your earlier attempts to break free from the binds.

"Why? I haven't even done anything to warrant such hostility—" you began, but your words were swiftly interrupted by a charismatic voice, cutting through the tense atmosphere with cheekiness.

"Heya! Looks like I stumbled upon a little party. Mind if I join?"
