Umbra's behavior had taken a peculiar turn since regaining control of his body, or at least that's what Luminara thought.

She couldn't shake the feeling that Umbra was drawing closer to her, his actions growing increasingly odd. He muttered to himself incessantly, and his gaze often lingered on her in a way that made her uneasy. As children, he had been distant, which had been frustrating at times, but now his newfound closeness felt unsettling. Luminara couldn't help but wonder if her own actions had triggered this change in him, or if it was something he had initiated. Regardless, she couldn't shake the guilt she felt for pushing him away. Strangely, ever since she had distanced herself from him, his peculiar behavior seemed to have vanished, as if he were purposefully concealing it.

Ori's father had warned her about such occurrences, although she had paid little attention to his teachings. He had spoken of physical transformations in spirits triggered by intense emotions like anger and whatever others. He had also cautioned her that spirits consumed by darkness couldn't survive without light, which they obtained through various means such as sharing blood or performing rituals, having to steal from other spirits. The same applied to spirits born from light. No celestial being could thrive without balance.

Most spirits came into existence during summoning rituals conducted by angels, mortals, or demons, as spirits couldn't ever create or birth other spirits either naturally or through summoning.

It was perhaps why spirits never hosted baby showers.

Ori's father had warned that once these emotional changes occurred, physical transformations would soon follow. The thought filled Luminara with dread.

But why was she dwelling on Umbra's transformation when she had more pressing matters at hand, like locating Oxilyse's old spirit companions?

After hours of trekking north, Luminara regretted entrusting Lapis with the map. His confusion between north and south, east and west, had led them astray.

"Alright, let's make camp for the night," Ravewyn declared, seizing the map from Lapis's grasp. Umbra retrieved the bags from the Shadow Space, a sensation that always made Luminara's skin crawl. They were traversing a desert, where they would rest during the scorching day and travel at night. As the sun began its ascent, Luminara couldn't shake that haunting feeling of unease. She knew something was going to happen soon, and she dreaded it.

The desert took on a surreal and otherworldly beauty that transcended mortal comprehension. As the first light of dawn crept across the horizon, the sands seemed to come alive with a soft, ethereal glow, suffusing the landscape with a luminous radiance.

The dunes, bathed in the gentle hues of the awakening sun, took on a golden sheen that shimmered like liquid fire. Each grain of sand sparkled with an inner light, casting long, sinuous shadows that danced across the desert floor.

Above, the sky was a canvas of breathtaking beauty, painted in hues of pink, purple, and gold that blended seamlessly together in a symphony of color. Wispy clouds drifted lazily across the heavens, their forms illuminated from within by the soft, golden light of the rising sun.

As the sun climbed higher into the sky, its rays bathed the desert in a warm, golden glow, casting long shadows that stretched across the sands like fingers reaching out to touch the heavens. The air was filled with a sense of magic and wonder, as if the very fabric of reality had been woven from strands of pure sunlight.

It reminded her of her mother

Luminara helped Ravewyn set up the tents, while Lapis pulled Umbra aside for discussion.

"Hey, remember what I mentioned about elemental concentrations?" Lapis inquired, breaking the silence that hung between them

"Hey, remember what I mentioned about elemental concentrations?" Lapis inquired, breaking the silence that hung between them.

Umbra took a moment to recall Lapis's earlier discussion before responding. "Um... Something about spirits gaining elemental abilities after their bodies adapt to the corresponding element?" he guessed.

Lapis nodded approvingly. "You grew up during the night-hours, right?" he queried. Umbra nodded in confirmation.

"Have you noticed any changes in yourself recently?" Lapis pressed further, observing Umbra closely.

Umbra paused, considering the question. "No, not really," he replied, though a hint of uncertainty lingered in his voice.

"Alright then. I'll be sharing a tent with Rave, so you'll be rooming with Luminara," Lapis informed him, Umbra glanced over at Luminara, who was busy securing the tent. Their eyes briefly met before Umbra turned back to face Lapis, who looked back at him with a knowing smirk.

Weird.

Luminara set up the lantern in the tent and placed down the sleeping bags.

She left the tent, rummaging through the bags to find her's. Umbra ran on over, sending the bags into the shadow space. Luminara held in an angry scream, and left to their tent to go sleep.

A minute later, Umbra joined her, sleeping in the beanbag she placed parallel to her.

Luminara pulled out a sleeping pill she snuck into her pockets, because there was no way in the Wastelands is she going to sleep during the day, while Umbra was out like a light.
