Three years later:
Zed had his talk with Liam because a little girl had been calling the house regularly. He goes to the mall with friends, and I have seen him do double takes on a few cute girls. He is a really good-looking kid and really popular in school.
So, just to be prepared, Zed sat him down and discussed safe sex. He even bought him some condoms and told him to keep an eye on the expiration date. When they expired, let him know, and he would get him some more.
We just wanted to ensure he was safe because we didn't want any grandbabies for several years.
He said Liam was respectful of his dad talking to him and providing him with condoms just in case it ever happened. He did say it wouldn't be any time soon, so we can breathe for a bit.
They are all growing up so fast. Our babies will be double digits next year, or at least that's what they keep saying. It's so cute.
Zed and I are truly so blessed with four amazing kids; they are all good, sweet, and good-looking. I may be biased because they are mine.
I'm in the kitchen with Isabel or Izzy. That's what she decided she wanted to be called. Working on her family tree. We left out my biological parents, and I put Ken and Karen down as my parents.
Zed was in the living room with Samuel. The house phone started ringing, and Zed got up and answered it.
"Hello."
"Um, Zed."
"Yes, this is he. How may I help you?"
"Zed, who lived in Florida and has a sister named Stephanie."
"One and the same. Now, can we get to the reason for your call and who you are?"
"Zed, it's your ex, Sasha, from high school."
"Sasha, why are you calling my house almost twenty years after we broke up?"
"Um, well, it's a little bizarre, and I guess I should have told you when it happened and I found out, but I just decided to do it on my own. Besides, when we were together, you were going on and on about your girlfriend in Washington."
"She's my wife now and has been for the last almost fifteen years. Sasha, I am a happily married man with four kids. I'm not interested. Wait, did you say when you found out? Found out, what? Did you give me something? Oh god, my wife is going to kill me."
"No, Zed, nothing like that. You were in town for Christmas alone. I ran into you at a bar, and you were drunk, and so was I. We, um, slept together, and I ended up pregnant."
"No way, nope, there is no way in hell I cheated on my wife, well, girlfriend then. I have always been completely head over heels crazy in love with her."
"Exactly, you kept calling me Tess the entire time. I didn't care; I just wanted to fuck you. Then, I found out I was pregnant in February. You had gone back to Washington, and I heard you were moving to Seattle with your girlfriend. So, I decided to do it on my own."
"He is almost fifteen now. Zed, I need help; he is really sick and needs bone marrow. I didn't match with him, and neither did my parents or any close family. I just need you to do a test to see if you match with him."
"Bone marrow, as in he has Leukemia?"
"Yes, he was diagnosed almost two years ago. He has been struggling with it, and I can't lose him; Zed is my only child and my entire life."
"Shit. Fuck, I have to tell my wife. I'm so sorry he is going through this. What do I need to do?"
"He's in St. Jude's hospital in Memphis and has been for the last month, but his condition is getting worse. I don't want anything else. I just want to save my son, our son's life."
