Michael laughed as he listened to Mellie tell stories about her in Izzy back in middle school. It was interesting to get to know more about their friendship; it was like his and Ashton's practically, except they became friends later in school than the boys did.

Michael had taken Mellie out to a fancy Italian restaurant. They went a bit early for an appropriate dinner time, but it was the only time he could reserve. It was Valentine's Day, so all of the couples wanted to go to the good places at the right time. Then after the dinner, they went to Jane's Carousel on Dock Street. Neither one of them have been there before, so they decided to go on a whim. The two of them made it fun as they sat on the horses that slowly went up and down.

Currently, Michael and Mellie were holding hands as they licked on their ice cream. It was a bit chilly out for the cold snack, but you can never turn down some ice cream. They were currently in Brooklyn, walking towards the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Michael thought it was a good idea to have some dinner and then walk around the park. Other couples must have thought the same too, they were all over the park. Kissing, hugging, snuggling. It sort of made Michael anxious and scared, he hasn't done any of that stuff with Mel yet.

Eventually they reached an empty bench that faced the East River. The whole city seemed to be lit up by now. The sun was setting earlier than usual, although there were no clouds in the sky. The lights on the Brooklyn Bridge shone down on the cars that drove through it, loud honks could be heard from where the two were sitting.

Michael had finished his ice cream by now. He let go of Mellie's hand, and instead wrapped his arm around her shoulder. She nibbled on her ice cream cone as she stared out into the water, lights reflecting in it and waving to everyone. Mellie rested her head on Michael's shoulder as they sat in silence for one more time.

"I've never gone on a ferry ride," Mellie said quietly as her red hair laid fanned across Michael's shoulder. He looked down at her as she continued to nibble on her ice cream. "My parents never wanted to take me. And then after my dad left, my mom never wanted to do anything."

Michael pulled her closer to him, a quick breeze catching the two of them. Some snow flew off of the ground and towards their faces. Michael squinted as he looked at the river so he could be safe from the snow. "How about we go? I didn't really have a plan after this."

"You suck at planning dates," Mellie laughed. She looked up at him with a smile and then kissed his cheek, her right hand still holding onto the ice cream in her lap. "I'm joking."

"So, I'm taking that as a 'yes' to go on the ferry?" Michael smiled, his cheeks getting warm from her lips.

"Well, what ferry are we gonna go on?"

"How about we go on the Staten Island one? You get to see the Statue of Liberty and other tourist-y things. And it's free," Michael said. Mellie pursed her lips, looking out of the corner of her eyes. She then agreed to the plan and rushed finishing her ice cream cone.

"But to get there, do you wanna go on the East River one? It's six bucks per person, it'll probably be cheaper than taking a taxi there."

"Two ferries in one day? Okay, I'm down with it," Mellie said with a short laugh. She jumped off of the bench and turned around to face him with some chocolate ice cream on the side of her lips. Michael chuckled, but she didn't notice. She tugged his arms off of the bench and towards her. Michael was pulled up, she was strong for a small girl, and wrapped her in a warm hug. Her face was buried in his jacket and he rested his chin on the top of her head.

"Mellie, you have some ice cream on your face," Michael said, still laughing. She pulled back from him and looked up into his eyes. "Let me get it." He wiped his thumb across the side of her lips softly. He had to do it again with more pressure to get it off.
