Izzy's back was pressed against the car as Luke leaned over and kissed her. Her fingers were hiding in his blond hair on the back of his neck and their lips were making obnoxious smacking sounds.
Mellie turned towards Michael in disgust, but he could tell she was happy for her best friend. She scoffed, "Now I have to deal with this."
"Hey, they've all had to deal with us." Michael smiled through his mask, although Mellie couldn't see it, and she smiled back. She pulled him in for one last hug before they all separated.
"We're all gonna be okay. I have hope. We're gonna get your mom back."
Michael rubbed her back as he watched Calum and Ashton sit in the front of Ashton's car, waiting for Luke to stop kissing Izzy. Michael took in a deep breath as Mellie pulled back and looked up at him.
"Mel, whatever happens out there..." He drifted off. He didn't know what exactly to say. It was too early for I love you's. They'd only been together for one month, how could he just proclaim his love for her now? "I care about you a lot. I don't want you to risk your life."
"It's okay, Michael. You gave me the best year out of all four years of high school. You're a superhero, and every superhero needs a sidekick..."
"No, no, no, Mel."
She laughed before standing on her tip toes again. She kissed him, but it was awkward because he was still wearing his mask. She pulled back with an uncomfortable look on her face and Michael let out a laugh.
"I'm never doing that again." Mellie smiled and then stood back down again. "We'll be right behind you the whole time. Okay?"
"Okay, babe."
Ashton and Calum were listening in on something in the car. Calum waved Michael and Mellie over as Luke and Izzy continued talking very close to one another by Izzy's car.
Michael leaned into the car through Calum's open window. Ashton turned the volume up higher as some static waves took over the station.
"...A huge red scorpion running around. It looks ... a robot? Maybe it's for a movie or ... woman strapped onto its back. Citizens are hiding inside." The static kept disrupting the station, but Michael got the gist of it. He looked over at Ashton who sat behind the wheel. He had a scared look on his face.
"Well, we know where your mom is."
"Let's head downtown. I could probably spot it from above. I might go ahead of you guys at times, but try to speed through."
Well, at least there was more to the plan now. It was just their luck. Maybe this was all in the weird villain's plan to draw Michael closer to him. His mom strapped on the back of a huge red scorpion? How could he miss that through the city?
Mellie started to walk back towards Izzy's car, but stopped once she realized her entrance was blocked. She turned around and gave Michael a look.
Michael stuck his arm out and pulled his middle and index finger towards his palm. Webs shot out and latched onto Luke's jacket. He tugged on the web, which sent Luke's long legs to wobble around each other as he stumbled over the flat ground. Izzy laughed from her spot against the car before being gently shoved aside by Mellie.
Luke looked at Michael. The back of his hair was sticking out from Izzy's fingers, and there were a few red sparkly lip marks on his face. Ashton honked from his car.
"I don't need you guys having sex in the middle of this life-or-death situation," Michael said. Luke's face turned red immediately and Izzy shouted a "Hey!" from next to her car. Michael turned towards Calum and Ashton. "Get in Izzy's car. It's better than yours, sorry, Ash."
