Ever since Michael got Luke's number, he's gone to his house a couple of times. He had a nice house that was located right next to a convenience store, so the Hemmings family always had a full fridge. Michael also met Luke's parents, and they seemed like really nice, smart people. Luke is a great person, and Michael is happy for standing up for him that day in the hallway. If he hadn't he'd probably still only be friends with Ashton. It was good to have more than one friend.

Michael gets to see Luke more than Ashton though, and that's not that bad because it gives him the opportunity to get to know him more. Luke has practically every period with him, and he even sits with Michael and Ashton during lunch now. Ashton had been a bit surprised and shocked when Michael first told him that he is friends with Luke, since Ash knew how much Michael had hated him since the beginning of high school, but he was glad for him.

His senior year was finally looking up.

Currently, Michael was lacing his boots by the front door. His mom was having her afternoon nap, so he left her a note on the kitchen table saying he was going to be out for a few hours. He didn't say where exactly, but he figured she wouldn't care either way.

Once his boots were tied, he stood up and slung his backpack on. He didn't have a normal bag, since guys don't just wear bags or purses--Michael didn't own a murse, okay--so he just wore his backpack. He had taken all of his books and notebooks out of it, and instead filled it up with albums and movies. His wallet was in there also, since it didn't really fit in his jeans, just in case they decided to order pizza or go run to some fast food place for lunch.

Michael was going over to Mellie's for the first time. Like, in the apartment. Not just to stand outside and hand her a pizza in exchange for money. And it was her idea to come over, so he was invited intentionally. Not just by chance, like the two times before where he ended up with her pizza order.

It wasn't like a date, and Michael wondered if she felt that way about him at all, but it was just to hang out and get to know each other a bit. They've only been talking through text, never a phone call, and he hasn't seen her since the day he got her number. She doesn't go to his school, so the best time they could actually hang out was on the weekends.

So, Michael left the house after checking his backpack. He locked the door behind him and squinted once he took a step outside of the house. The sun was shining brightly, and there were no clouds in the sky, but it was still really cold out. Michael probably could've worn a jacket, but he didn't own a proper autumn/winter jacket.

Instead he wore a grey tank top, which was sort of big on him since it was an old shirt. It has definitely gone through a lot of years of Michael tugging on it everywhere, but it's still one of his favorites. It was so loose on him you could see his collarbones and a little bit of chest hair--if you looked close enough. He also wore a black hoodie over it; since it was chilly outside, he decided to zip up all the way. He'll probably unzip the whole thing once he was inside her apartment.

Michael walked down to the end of the street, his eyes still squinting from the sun and his cheeks turning a light shade of pink as the wind ran over his face. He waited at the bus stop as trees rustled from the wind, some of the orange and yellow leaves falling from the tree nearby the stop. There was a house with decorations in the front yard near the stairs; there were big orange bags with pumpkin faces on them full of leaves. Michael thought to himself why his mom never did fun little things like that when he was growing up.

Michael waited around ten minutes before the bus came, there had been another person waiting with him for a while but they didn't speak. It was a man wearing a business suit and holding a briefcase.

The bus ride took around twenty more minutes before he ended up a block down from Mellie's apartment. There were so many people getting on and off the bus. Michael just stood in the back leaned up against the window. He had his headphones in to block out the sound of people moving and the bus stopping and running again and again.
