7. Knowing

Two and a half hours later I'm woken back up.
Thankfully it's by Ray's cooking rather then a nightmare.
We may live on leftovers here but if there's one thing Ray knows how to cook it's a great breakfast.
"Morning Ray, need any help"
"Good morning Jessie. You sleep well?"
"Not bad" I lie
"Great well you can set the table if you want, pancakes this morning"
"You got it"
I start setting the table.
We all like different things on our pancakes Cream and strawberries for Jules,
syrup for Ray, powdered sugar for Carlos and Nutella for me.
I put them all out on the table along with cutlery, plates and cups.
"All done, you want a cup of coffee"
"Thank you Jessie that would be great"
I make Ray his coffee and by the time I'm done Carlos and Julie have come down
and Ray has finished the pancakes.
We all sit down and enjoy the breakfast
"So girls while I have you here I was thinking since you're back out in the
studio a lot maybe
it's time for Jessie
to move back out there."
Julie shouts out before I can even think of a response "NO"
We all turn to look at her
"I, I just mean" she stumbles not finishing her sentence
"It's okay Jul's" I say trying to hide my disappointment
"It's your moms studio, If you don't want me living out there again that's fine"
"Are you sure"
"I'm fine on the couch, thanks for the offer though"
Julie says nothing else and we all go back to eating our pancakes.
"I should be getting ready for school" I say leaving a mostly full plate
and head to the upstairs bathroom, where all my clothes are in a big trunk, to get ready and leave.

(Luke's POV)
"Come on. Julie we need to rehearse"
"I promised the girls, we can rehearse when I get home" she repeats for the third time
"Just blow them off, you don't need to go shopping" I complain
"It's for the dance, don't I need to look good for the gig?"
"I suppose" I grumble unhappily
"Look it'll only be a few hours"
"Hours" I shout "why so long?"
"We have to wait for Jessie she has rehearsal now so we can't go for an hour."
As she says this we get to Jessie's locker.
At least I'm guessing it's hers by the way she's digging through it.
"Hey crazy lady you okay?" she sticks her head out to see who's talking before going back to digging through her locker.
"I can't find my skirt"
"Which one? Maybe I borrowed it"
"My blue one for the play, I had it last night.
Ugh, Tanna is going to kill me if I forget it, and that's the one thing I
was told not to do.
Don't get on her bad side."
Jessie is visibly stressed and getting more stressed the more she talks.
I remember her wearing a blue skirt last night when she was in the studio.
I think back and remember her leaving it on my couch when she came out of the bathroom.
I poof back to the studio while Julie's trying to calm her down.
As suspected the skirt is lying on my couch.
I pick it up and poof back, behind Jesse this time so she can't see the skirt floating.
I wave it around in front of Julie so sees it before dropping it on the ground
"Hey Jessie is that it on the ground"
Julie points to the skirt
Jessie grabs the skirt
"you are a lifesaver"
she says before running
down the hall
"see you after!"
she shouts back
"Good job Luke" Julie says turning to me.
I give her my best puppy dog eyes
"I think I deserve a treat for that"
"Fine we can rehearse in the music room until she's done"
"Yes" I say jumping up in victory
I open my eyes and see Julie already started walking off
"Huh, Wait up!"
I say running catch up.

(Jessie's POV)
"Don't know about you two but I look amazing"
I hear Flynn call out from her dressing room followed by the sound of her curtain opening.
"What about you Jessie?" Julie asks still in her dressing room.
I look in my mirror, I am wearing a dress Flynn picked out blue, a tulle skirt and mesh sleeves.
It's cute but definitely something more suited to Jul's then to me.
"I don't think so" I walk out of Flynn
"but it's so cute"
"It's a great dress Flynn, just not my style."
"Isn't that the point, your style is a bit " Julie starts from behind her dressing room curtain
"slutty" Flynn chirps in and I give her my best death glare.
she puts her hand up in surrender "or not "
"You coming out Jul's?"
"I hate everything I've tried on" she sounds defeated leaving her dressing room.
She's in a soft pink dress with diamond detailing around the waist.
Soft and sweet and while she looks pretty it's not quite her.
"How about you try this dress on, it's totally you"
I suggest and Flynn agrees
"yeah you'd rock this"
"No that's your dress"
"Actually, I think I'm going to go and get that red off the shoulder dress from the last store.
You know wear my leather jacket with it. So this dress is all yours"
"I don't know I don't think I'll get anything.
"Well I'm definitely getting this" Flynn gestures to her outfit.
"You know Rose had some pretty sick stuff,
why don't you check out her old clothes for something to wear."
"Thanks Jessie, I might just do that"
Flynn and I buy our outfits and I head back to hers while Julie heads home to rehearse.
"Thanks for running lines with me."
"No problem, so are you ready for tomorrow?"
"I am not performing, I have nothing to get ready for it
"Don't you have a date?
"Flynn, if I had a date I would have told you and Julie about it."
"But I heard Chris Abely say he was going to ask you."
"Well he didn't, maybe he changed his mind."
I shrug not too bothered about it, sure I date a little nothing serious or long-term though,
so the idea of going to dances alone is nothing new.
"I wish someone would ask me out"
Flynn flops onto her bed
"You could always ask someone out."
"Like who?"
"I don't know, whoever you're hoping will ask you out"
I laugh "Maybe Julie will set you up with one of her Swedish band mates."
"oh yeah"
Flynn awkwardly says causing me to raise an eyebrow
"I mean they are pretty cute but I want a boyfriend I can show off."
She flops down dramatically again making me laugh
"Don't laugh at me" she shrieks throwing a pillow at me, causing me to laugh even more.

"Hey Jul's" I greet once she answers the phone
"Sorry to interrupt rehearsal"
I say knowing she arrived home an hour and a half ago so rehearsal was probably in full swing.
"We're only about to start now,
we were waiting for Alex. How was practice"
"It went well, I'm exhausted though. Which one's Alex again?"
"Drummer"
"Right, Blondie" it takes a couple of seconds but she laughs.
"Anyway can I use your computer,
I got to download backing music for something I am working on?"
"Yeah no problem it's in my room. Do you remember the password?"
"Yep, Nick and Julie for ever" I joke
"Jessie!" I can almost hear her start blushing
"Oh sorry that's your email password"
"Jessie!" I can't hold in my laughter
"Sorry Juls gotta go do my school work bye"
I hang up the phone as I make my way into the house
"Carlos what's up" I greet the boy as he trys to scale the counter
"There are ghosts in the house and I need salt to protect you and Julie from them"
I pull the salt off the high self and pass it to him
"Well here you are brave sir, just keep enough for dinner."
"Got it" He says before running out to the sitting room.
I make my way up to Julie's room and sit on her bed with the laptop.
I pull out my bag to find the notebook I wrote down what song file I needed to download in.
I pull it out and a CD falls out with it.
"I forgot this was in here" I mutter to myself and put it in the laptop to play,
my school work can wait a minute.
The first song to play is Now or Never, I hum along with it the notes flooding back into my memory.
I wonder if I can still play it on guitar.

Take off
Last stop
Count down till we blast open the top
Face first
Full charge

The disc starts screeching for a couple of seconds before returning back to normal

But we don't get older, no

As the song plays I look to see if I can find a digital version online without the screeching.
I look up Sunset Curve now or never not expecting to find much,
but a YouTube video pops up in the results.
I search it on my phone so I can download it.
The audio is clearly a recording of the demo taking off their phone but the disc isn't scratched like mine must be, so there is no screeching.
I can probably just isolate the background noise from the music
What really catches my attention is the background picture for the video.
My best guess is that it is the picture that was put in the newspaper for their death announcement, but there in the picture is three boys who look eerily similar to Julie's new band.
I head down to the studio to show Julie,
passing Flynn and Carlos coming in the front door as I go out it.
"Stay in the salt path Jessie, to protect yourself"
"You got it little sir" I shout back to Carlos following the salt path to the studio.
I open the door without knocking, looking down at the photo on my phone.
I hear Julie talking but no music and Flynn was presumedly just in here so I'm sure I'm not intruding too much.
"Hey Jul's, sorry for interrupting but we need to talk about"
I cut myself off looking up to see the three boys just on my phone screen now standing in front of me
"them"
I look at Julie who's face is full of shock
"About them."
