Prologue
The church bells rang in the distance, their melodious chimes slicing through the tension that hung thick in the air as I watched in silence from the altar.
"Lisa, are you okay?" a voice beside me whispered, laced with guilt and uncertainty. I turned to him, who stood tall and proud.
As Jennie glided down the aisle, her delicate hands clutching a bouquet of roses, led by her father. Her white gown billowed like a cloud. My heart clenched as I saw her, my emotions swirling like a storm inside me. I fought to keep my composure as she drew closer, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Yes," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. "She's perfect, isn't she?" my brother smiled and looked at Jennie's direction.
When Jennie reached the altar, I held her. Her hand trembling in mine. I brought it to my lips, and the taste of her skin is a sweet agony. The sound of my choked breath mingled with the faint music drifting through the church. A single tear escaped my eye, unable to hold on any longer. I turned away, my chest tight with a love I could never have.
"Lisa," her voice is like a fragile melody in the wind, I looked back and I smiled at her. The most genuine smile I can ever give.
My mind drifted to the days spent getting to know Jennie, the late-night conversations, the shared dreams. I never thought I would find love in such unexpected circumstances. The love I felt for Jennie, a love that had bloomed unexpectedly but fiercely in my heart.
"You looked stuning, Ruby Jane," and once again I brought her hand to my lips one last time before letting her go, and every step she took away from me felt like a dagger through my heart.
The church filled with the echoes of vows and promises, I knew that the path I chose would change everything.
