Today, I'm walking with Aya to the nearest bus stop from our school. I don't go back home with her. I'm just being her company since I need to wait for my brother to finish his school programme. What's worse is that I need to wait for him for two hours. So, it's better if spend my time to chat with Aya.
We walk until we reach the nearest bus stop. It's actually my first time walking around in this area since my home is located on the opposite way. There are quite a lot of students who still didn't go home yet.
"Do you know? Ryder's house is just across that street. Do you see that six story flat? That's his home," Aya tells me while pointing to the white and orange building in the distance.
"Really? It's so close to the school."
"Yeah. I'm also surprised. No wonder he's hardly skipping school. Maybe he's afraid a teacher would come personally to his house to check on him? Since his house is so close." Aya and I are chuckling together.
"Anyway, his reactions yesterday was absolutely satisfying. You don't have any idea just how many students in our class was simping for you guys at the back. They all talked about how cute it will be if you guys really become a couple," Aya got excited again. She has been like this since yesterday.
"For real? I don't know I got so many supporters. Am I the only person who like him in this school? That's why I got no haters?"
"Maybe?" She shrugged her shoulders.
"But, Kanchu told me he has many admirers in middle school? Since he has always been a top student. Fortunately, he has no interest in any of them though," I mumble the last sentence in low voice.
"That was in middle school, right? Since it's high school right now, most of them should probably have a new crush or boyfriend."
"Hmm. You are probably right."
"Moreover, you go from your nerd appearance to this cute lovely look because you like him. So, most of the people would love to support you when they saw you. By the way I just want to ask. It's just asking, so don't discourage, okay?"
"Okay, okay. What do you want to ask? You made me nervous."
"If he still doesn't admit his feelings for you or he reject you again, will you go back to your old appearance?" She asks cautiously, like how you put expensive glass on the table.
"That's what you want to ask? You nearly give me a heart attack, you know?" I look at her in disbelief.
"Hmm. Remember when you asked me to change my look? I thought hard about it. Is it okay to change my look just because of my crush? And then, my mother came into my room and gave me a new skin care she bought for me. She also told me the good quality of the new skin care."
"She told me I need to take a good care of my look. That's when I thought, she's right. Being pretty doesn't necessarily meant for someone. It's for me and not anyone else. Taking care of my skin and wear a nice accessory or clothes are just to show that I care for myself."
"It's not like I take the extreme way just to be pretty. I'm just doing the basics and I will maintain it. It doesn't matter if he really looks at me or not," I finish my long explanation.
"That's good then. Don't let your feeling for someone to dictate your life." Aya smiles while showing off her teeth.
"The long explanation makes me thirsty. Let's get some ice cream over there." I point to the small store that sells snacks and carbonated drinks that just a few meters away from us.
"Let's go." We both stand up and hold hands while walking. Just when we're about to cross the road, a motorcycle suddenly stops in front of us.
The man who ride the motorcycle take off his helmet. One look at his face and I know he wasn't a good guy. He looks at Aya and smile. Aya just frozen stiff and look totally speechless. They seem to know each other.
"Aya. Who is this?" I whisper to her.
"My father," she replies absentmindedly.
"So this is the bastard you have been talking about." I look at her father coldly.
"What are you doing here?" Aya asks him.
"Of course it's to pick you up. My sister has been worried about you not coming back yet," he says with a soft, amiable tone.
"You're lying. There's no way my mother would ask you to pick me up. Never." Aya repeatedly shakes her head.
"Here. This is a message that I had with your mother," he handed her a phone. Aya take it and began to scroll the messages.
"How is it?" I ask her.
"It's indeed my mother's number. She asked him to pick me up thirty minutes ago."
"See? I'm not lying. So now get on." Aya is hesitating at first but then she begins to get on the motorcycle. I quickly grab her hands and pull her back.
"Aya, let's run," I tell her. She looks quite shock at my sudden actions but there's no more time to waste. So I start to run while holding her hands. She has no choice but to run with me. We just running without a clear direction and stop when we are out of breath.
"Huff... Huff... Looks like... he's not... following us," I say while greedily gasping for breaths. We collapse on the floor for five minutes before we stand up again.
"Why you did that?" Aya begin to ask me. I look at her in disbelief.
"Are seriously going to follow the man that police has been searching after you reported him? If the one who sent him the message is truly your mother, that means she sold you out. How can I let that happen?"
"There's no way my mother would do that," she frowns.
"I also can't believe it. So let's find out what happened." I show her the phone that bastard gave her earlier.
"What?! Since when did you.."
"I grabbed it from the moment I pull your hand. Now let's call her." I hand her the phone and she begins to dial the number. It isn't that long before the call get picked up. I didn't forget to tap the record button.
"Have you arrived at her school? Hurry up. I need to delete the message before my mother wake up," a voice says.
I frown. This is not her mother's voice. The voice seems to belong to a young woman instead. I quickly touch the red button before Aya could say anything. I glance at her and I knew it. She recognize the voice.
"That was my sister. She's the one who sent the message to my father," she looks more absent minded than before.
"The hateful sister? The one who really, really hate you?" I ask and she nods. If it's her, then it's no wonder.
"What am I going to do now? Looks like my mother still sleeping and we don't know if my father searching for us."
"For now, let's message your sister using her real number. Told her that he has picked you up and ask her to meet fifteen minutes later. And then you ride a bus or taxi or anything to get to your home after she's going out, okay?"
"What about you? If he doesn't find me. He might target you instead," she says worriedly. I smile and reassure her.
"Our house are too far away from each other and I need to wait for my little brother. But don't worry. I will find a way to go back to school safely. Your situation is more critical than me, so you better hurry."
"Okay."
After making sure she ride a taxi safely, I begin to look at my surroundings. I'm currently at the parking area inside the flat. I look at my watch and there's still one hour left before my brother finishes his program. I'm afraid to recklessly go back right now and I don't bring my phone to text anyone either.
Just when I feel like about to cry, a voice calling out behind me.
"Nina?"
"Ryder?"
