Darcy Arlo Carrington

"The wedding date has been prepared, Your Grace." The Royale priest informed.

"Do you want me to inform Lady Katherine?" Adam spoke out of the blue.

Why is he so desperate to see Katherine? Is he in love with her or something? That's won't be possible because Katherine is only mime.

"You don't need to." I glared at him. "As her formal husband to be, I shall inform this matter myself."

He nodded.

The Royale Priest is a young man outside but on the inside, he's more than 1000 years old. He's a really trusted priest who has been arranging the Royale weddings throughout his life which means he also blessed our ancestors.

"But I do have few questions that has been bothering me from sometime." The Royale Priest said.

"What is it?" I raised my brow in confusion.

"I don't want to offend you but why Lady Katherine?" He hesitated to continue. "What...I meant is, there are plenty of ladies who are in line to spend the rest of their life with you." He stopped.

"So does Katherine." I said earning both priest and Adam's glance. "You can say I simply chose one of the lady who has been dying to be with me."

If I tell the priest about my real plan, he would never attend the wedding because to his rules, one cannot marry for any business person.

"I'm sure I told you before, Your Grace. Marriage is not a game but rather a promise between two lovers who vow to spend their eternity with eachother." He explained like I didn't know.

I sighed. I cannot argue with him and his logics about love.

Besides, whenever I'm with Katherine, I do feel something that I never felt with anyone. Can I call it love? Not too soon. It must be a desire. A lustful desire. Nothing else.

I, Darcy Arlo Carrington shall never swept away from a simple thing called "love". It's not even real. I've seen my father vowing to protect and be with my mother for the rest of their life but he brought a mistress and made the same promise to her after my mother's death. How can I trust love after seeing the most lovable couple in empire falling apart?

Lust and love are both two different things. They cannot be mixed together. One who can love can lust but one who can lust can never love.

"If you are done, I shall return to my own duties." I tell the priest who's eye brows narrowed. He nodded then left.

"Do you really not have any feelings for Lady Katherine, Your Grace?" Adam asked out of the blue. He has never asked anything like that before.

"What did I just say?" I looked at Adam who was already looking at me. "I married her to get my land back. To have feelings for a ungrateful lady like her is absurd. Marriage is not always about love, Adam. The priest is wrong about that."

"Why are you trying to gain Lady Katherine's favour then?" He asked.

"So she won't use some weird techniques to make me look bad infront of the commoners. You know, how the world turned into, one rumour can destroy a king. I'm just the Duke, it wouldn't be so hard to destroy me." I explained.

I was in denial. A huge denial. I don't like what I'm saying but my mouth wouldn't stop. It's the stupid pride I own.

"Your Grace, Lady Katherine isn't the same person as before, as you've already noticed." He tried to remind me.

"What if she's also applying the same method like me? What if she's also trying to gain my favour so sh won't suffer anymore." I paused, surprised by my own words. "Lady Katherine is just a temporary duchess and nothing else. We already agreed on that." I finished my sentence.

"Oh Katherine, how lovely to see you here. Won't you go inside?" I hear Arthur's voice through the door. It's a muffling voice but clear.

"Your Majesty...I don't feel well right now. I hope you had a pleasant journey. I shall take my leave." I heard a sniff and Katherine's voice.

Both me and Adam's eyes widened.

She heard everything...

The door opened and Arthur entered.

"Greetings to Your Majesty." Adam said and I just stood there.

As his older brother, I never had to bow to him. That's the rule only this empire has.

"In case you weren't aware, Katherine was here and she seemed...hurt." Arthur said.

As I expected, she heard everything. How can I make it up to her?

"In case you weren't aware, Katherine is my responsibility and I shall be the one concerned not you, Your Majesty." I glared at him.

"Oh someone's in a rage. You never call me Your Majesty unless you're mad, upset or disappointed." He smirked.

"Quite intelligent." I raised my brow. "What brings you here?"

"Just wanted to see my dear brother." He grinned like an idiot.

"Straight to the point." I command.

People might think I'm the king the way I'm ordering the real king but that's just how I talk and how I get the work done.

"Did the Baron say anything?" He asked.

I sighed. "He said he'll only trade the golden apple farm after the marriage has been done."

"Understood." He nodded and grinned.

He isn't here to ask this useless question. The question is, why is Arthur here?

"What's the real reason for you to be here?" I asked glaring at him.

He hesitated, "Should there be any reason for me to visit my dear brother?" He smiled awkwardly.

I raised my brow.

"Since I'm here, I'd like to visit the Royal Garden. It's been a long." He smiled cunningly.

I cannot say no to that. The Royale Garden should've been in the Royale Palace but instead, it's here. There's some certain reasons to it.

"Alright. Make sure you leave after just a glance." I say narrowing my eyes.

"Cruel as always." He chuckled and left slowly and quietly with his crutches.

I still won't believe that Arthur is here just to visit the Royale Garden. He never did. There's something else.

Arthur has a really good sense, so I can't just send Adam or anyone to spy on him because he'll find out in no time. And besides, Arthur has a secret knight team called the "Black Knight" who follows him everywhere he goes but in distance. It's not like they follow Arthur because they are fond of him, they are in charge to protect the king and maintain their distance from the king.
