A year passes, and the two men have really started to fit in. Kass has made lots of friends with the other servants, and has gotten particularly close with Sophia. He and Thomas have become inseparable, and for Thomass 15th birthday Kass made him a woven sword that his dad taught him to make. They have a kind and friendly relationship, as for Jaksa and Zander..
"JAKSA! What have you done with my horse now! I told you to leave him be!" Zander called from the stables. Jaksa rolled his eyes. The two had a complicated relationship, and they clashed heads frequently. Never serious arguments, just senseless bickering. Jaksa never acted like he was talking to the future king, and constantly used his sharp tongue on him and other people. Zander didn't mind however, he liked being treated the same for once. They acted like they hated each other, but in reality, they cared more for eachother than anyone else. "What am i? Your servant?" Jaska retorted. He only seemed to hold his tongue around the king. Even Prince Thomas didn't get a break from his nasty comebacks. "It's here sire!" a worried voice calls from behind. A young serving girl, Kaeya, was hurrying over with the white stallion behind her, holding its reins. Zander stumbled out of the stables looking annoyed. "Where the hell was it?!" he snapped. The girl flinched and quickly answered, "someone took him out last night, he was found by the gates." the prince stood still, confused.
"Huh, that's odd." he mumbled. Jaksa shot Kaeya with a suspicious look. Before they could question her, the warning bells began to ring throughout the castle. "What now.." Jaksa grumbled, jogging after Zander. Sure he had fun occasionally, but he got annoyed with constantly running after him. People around them started to panic, stumbling around to get to safety.
Jaksa and Zander were the last ones to the meeting table, as usual. The king stopped talking as soon as they walked in. "Finally you're here, the Crystal of death has been stolen from the chambers below the castle." he spoke calmly, but anger was evident in his tone. Jaksa glanced back at Kass. Who just shrugged in response. Neither of them had ever heard of any sort of crystal, or why it was so important to the king. Zander however seemned to understand the urgency. "I'll get the knights ready, Jaksa will come with me, Kass, I want you and Sophia to get the horses. Aldo, predare the weapons. We leave in an hour." Now Jaksa was really confused. Only an hour? That wasn't enough time! He had no time to ask questions because Zander had already left in a hurry. Jaksa squinted his eyes. He was oddly prepared for this, and Jaksa had a bad feeling.
An hour passed and eight soldiers were ready to leave in search of this crystal. For once, Zander demanded no servants were allowed on this quest. Kass and Jaksa said their goodbyes and they set off. Jaksa still didn't know exactly what was going on, all he knew was that the crystal made you able to see the dead. Zander was leading in front, Jaksa beside him. Dunstan, Edwin, William, Ivar, Ode and Ariz formed a line behind them. Thomas begged to come along but Zander refused, claiming that it would be too dangerous. "So... are you finally going to tell me what is going on?" Jaksa asked, annoyance laced his tone.
"I suppose I should," Zander started. "Long ago-"
" I don't want to hear one of your bed time stories, just tell me what the hell we're doing, Princey!" Jaksa interrupted. The prince shot him an annoyed glare.
"It was my mothers crystal, a beautiful blue colour. Before she disappeared she told my father to protect it, that in the wrong hands it would be used as a weapon of evil. My father locked it deep in the dungeons, someone broke in, somehow..." he trailed off. He spoke softly as to not let any of the other knights hear. "How could someone break in? It's guarded 24./7." Zander just shrugged in response. The conversation dwindled after that. After a while, Jaksa spoke up. "We should set up camp, it'll be dark soon."
"What's the matter, scared of the dark?" Zander mocked.
"Well, princess, if you want to be mauled to death by something, be my guest!" Jaksa grinned.
