It had been months since the sickness had first started, now it had turned into a normal cold. No one could explain what had happened, but the people were glad that it was all over. Jaksa sat in his room looking at his feather collection. He had recently found a jaybird feather, It was a beautiful shade of blue and fit perfectly with the rest of his collection. His peace was quickly ruined when his wonderful companion Zander, the prince, burst in, Kass giggling behind him. The prince was soaked in water, and he was barefoot.
"That was not funny!"He screeched. Jaksa covered his mouth to try and hold back a laugh. "What did I do? Did you just go swimming?"
"Very funny. Kass tells me you put a water bucket over my door."
Jaksa laughed brightly and lied. "I didn't do it!"
"Then why are you laughing!?"
"Because whoever did it was a freaking genius!" Jaksa cackled. Kass wheezed and held onto the doorframe. Jaksa pointed at Zander, still laughing. "I bet it was Thomas." Zander pouted, which only made the two laugh harder.
Thomas suddenly jumped out from behind the door frame holding a bucket, then soaked Jaksa with water too. "Oh you've got to be kidding me!" Jaksa whined, looking down at his dripping shirt. "It was totally Sophia's idea!" Kass and Thomas both yelled before running out, and it was Zander's turn to laugh. The knight crossed his arms and grimaced for a moment before chucking slightly. "We have to get them back..." Zander ponders out loud, wiping his forehead. Jaksa snickers.
"Okay princess, any ideas ?" Zander looked up with annoyance.
"I was hoping you'd know."
"Well, lucky for you, I'm incredibly smart. Listen."
The four continued to play more harmless pranks on each other throughout the day. More water buckets above doors, misplacing and breaking things. It eventually led to Thomas being knee deep in mud, Jaksa covered in feathers, Zander getting rocks stuck in his hair, and Kass smothered in rotten tomatoes. All the while, the group laughed hysterically.
The fun was disrupted, however, when Sophia came and said that the king wanted to see them all. Jaksa and Kass glanced at each other and gulped. This was never a good thing.
They followed Sophia towards the hall, where the king sat on his throne, with a very annoyed expression. Sophia Bowed and left them alone in a deafening silence. Jaksa folded his arms, annoyed while the others bowed to the king.
"Okay, whatever you are doing, it stops. Now I've had countless complaints of puddles of water all over the palace and mud tracks. Just how old do you lot think you are!? You're just making extra work for the cleaners and just by looking at you I can see exactly who the culprits are."
"Father, we didn't even mean to-" Thomas began, but the king ordered silence by raising his hand.
"That isn't exactly why I called you here. I've heard there's been some trouble in the mountain kingdom." the king hesitated, as if unsure about what to say "Multiple reports of theft Crimes, however, as you know the knights there have much more to deal with than some low life thieves, that's why I'm sending you lot."
Jaksa and Kass gasped in unison.
"if you don't mind me asking, why are you sending us rather than any of the other knights?" Zander asked while Jaksa and Kass shot him a glare to him to shut up.
" I'm sure your friends will be happy to help, considering their... past." Jack opened his mouth to snap, but Zander stopped him."Of course father, we'll leave at dawn." Zander explained, however he was sceptical of the king's true intentions. He wouldn't just send them there to deal with another kingdom's crime problems, there was something more going on.
The king nodded and watched them leave, not noticing the glare that Jaksa had shot at him on the way out. Jaksa quickly forgot about the king's comment and started excitedly bouncing with Kass.
"After all these years we're going to get to the mountain kingdom!" Kass cheered.
" I know right?" Jaksa yipped.
"It feels like a dream. Am I dreaming?" Kass questioned. Jaksa punched him hard in the arm and Kass yelped. "Nope, not a dream." Jaksa chuckled.
"Alright, alright, go get ready before you die of a heart attack." Zander commanded, however, a small smile remained on his face. By dawn, they're ready to set off on their journey to the gates. By now, the whole town had heard that they were going, and we were chattering excitedly amongst themselves. It was a rare occasion that people were allowed in during the time where the gates were closed, however, they were being accompanied by royals. This time, they would have an exception. Of course, no one was more excited than Jaksa nd Kass. They didn't shut up about it even once they set off.
"What will it be like?"
"Will I get to pet a dragon?"
"Perhaps I'll get a magic sword?" Thomas joined in on their yapping.
"Will the food be glittery?"
"do they even need to eat?"
"probably not, they're magic!"
The prince was in front while his brother, Jaksa and Kass were behind him. Normally he would get annoyed at everyone talking so much, but this time he listened closely to what they were saying.
