Suguru Geto was never one to get hung up on the little things. He knew what the big picture was and he was going to get there no matter the cost.

The little things only got in the way. So if he focused on them, he would never get anything done. And that would be completely counterproductive.

So no.

He didn't stop and smell the roses. Especially not if he was in a flower garden.

But right now, as he sat by your hospital bed, he wished he had. He wished he had basked in the small kisses you planted on his cheeks. He wished he had cherished your small side hugs you gave him when you came to stand by him as he talked to Satoru. He wished he basked in the feeling of your small head pressed against the flesh of his chest.

However, right now, it felt as if it was too late for this remorse.

When you wake up. When you get better.

He would do it then. Suguru would never take your presence for granted again. You - and you alone - would occupy his priorities. That way he would be able to prevent this from happening. Something he was desperate to do.

Looking at your battered and bruised body, it was almost too much. It threatened to overwhelm him. This was never supposed to happen.

Deep down Geto understood where Gojo was coming from. He too felt the crippling burden of blame for your current state. It was one safety check. One push of him talking to the higher ups to change your mission. It was one moment to accompany you on the missions to prevent . . .

Whatever the hell had happened.

Geto placed a hand on your cold one and found himself flinching. You felt almost like a corpse. What was he going to do if you didn't pull through? Satoru's mental state would completely collapse - and Suguru wasn't sure he'd be able to put him back together.

And himself?

He highly doubted he would begin to piece his remains together.

There wasn't a reason for him to do so. Satoru deserved a second chance. He didn't. You were his second chance. And his neglect of the whole situation - he nearly blew it.

No. He wouldn't think like that. You would wake up. Shoko had already stated that your chances of pulling through increased by the day.

He leaned closer, his voice barely above a whisper as he spoke to you. As if his words alone could will you back to consciousness. "You have to wake up, (Y/n). We need you. I need you."

It was as if the skin that covered his bones was ripped away and only his bleeding insides were visible.

The steady beep of the heart monitor provided a bleak soundtrack to his plea.

Suguru's hand remained intertwined with yours, his grip tight as if holding on for dear life.

"You can't leave us like this," he continued, "I won't let you. We still have so much left to do together. And Satoru's already such an idiot. If something happened to you . . . I just know I'll kill him."

The words slipped out of Suguru's mouth before he could censor them. Honestly - even if he was logically thinking, he wouldn't have changed them.

Deep down, Geto hoped that the crudeness of his words would wake you up.

But of course, you remained motionless, lost in a world beyond his own. Suguru couldn't help but wonder what you were experiencing in that realm beyond his reach. Were you fighting to return to him, or were you content to linger in the solace of dreams?
