Satoru would never admit this to anyone, but there was one thing in the world he couldn't stand. Fireworks. He just didn't get their appeal. They were fleeting. Colourful for a moment. You needed certain weather condi-
Okay fine. He was scared of them.
Happy now?
Really, he found it so embarrassing. Who in their right mind would admit to being afraid of fireworks? Especially him. Someone with infinity. Someone who couldn't be touched unless he willed it.
The strongest, if you would.
But fireworks were an absolute hell no. He hated them with a vehement passion. It was something that had started in his childhood.
Nothing traumatic. More . . . embarrassing actually. He was young - the noise had startled him and he had fallen into a garbage bin. And every year, the embarrassing events kept happening.
One year - when he was eight - he was startled and fell into a river.
When he was twelve he fell into a hole after hearing the first bang.
When he was fifteen he shattered a plate from fright.
Every New Year's Eve, every festival, every celebratory event with fireworks, Satoru felt his face flush with dread. It was his own little secret, a fear that managed to evade even his invincible demeanor.
And now, with a grand festival on the horizon, he was going to face his fear head-on. Everyone was determined to celebrate the new year. To see them.
And he couldn't bear the thought of letting you - his pretty little girlfriend down.
The last thing Satoru wanted was to be the wet blanket who ruined everyone's fun. So, here he was, all dressed up and ready to go to the park with everyone once they made it to his house.
It was as if the universe had a twisted sense of humor.
At the very moment, he was looking at his horrified face in the mirror.
He plastered a grin on his face, trying to project confidence. "It's just a sound," he muttered to himself. "Just a sound. Like a really loud, obnoxious sound."
And then it happened. The inevitable ringing of his doorbell.
He straightened up and went to answer.
It was just you and Suguru so far. Shoko, Nanami, and Haibara would meet you three at the park. Suguru had an arm wrapped around your shoulder.
"Sup Satoru. You good?" Suguru pressed a kiss to the top of your head, "Jeez it's cold out here. Make sure you layer up man. Oh whoops," he let go of you as you tried to give Satoru a hug, "sorry."
You laughed and kissed Satoru's cheek and for a moment the sinking feeling in his gut was gone. But it was only a moment.
Suguru stepped inside and the two of you removed your shoes.
