When Sloan Casey was at her lowest point at 17, she met Alex Abrams. Though sheltered it was almost as if Alex brought her back to life through her struggles. But after falling for Alex, the last thing she expected was for him to ghost her.
But what...

My eyes burned as we sat in the car, Adonis drove as fast as he could back to the hospital. The most exciting yet terrifying news was given in a few short moments on the phone.
She was here, I'd left just a few hours ago to give Ace and Lila their privacy. Now their daughter Kingsley, my niece was born. But my stomach felt funny. Lila almost died minutes after the birth of her daughter, I know she's safe and stable. But my heart felt wary, because today she almost died.
Adonis told me it's not what I should focus on, because she's here. Their daughter was here and I was an Aunt to a tiny baby girl. I felt like we couldn't get the hospital fast enough. We were only a few minutes away from the place.
The car stops and I basically run out as Adonis follows behind me. I brush past nurses and patients and when I'm stopped I'm redirected. I felt like I couldn't get there fast enough. I reach the oak door and on the inside I hear the light conversation of Ace, Beth and Lila. But it's different the atmosphere of the room is different.
Voices are hushed for the child in someone's arms and a more mellow tone is set. My best friend was a mother, something I'd never be. It wasn't time to get jealous or be upset. It was time to be grateful that a healthy baby girl was here, that my best friend was a Mother.
I take Adonis's hand as we enter in quietly. As I step into view her eyes light up as she stares at me. The little girl was tiny in Aces arms as Lila sat peacefully in the bed.
"Sloan!" She mused. I could barely hear her next few words, because all I could focus on was the child in Aces arms.
I was truly an asshole, but man did that little girl look so perfect. She was the cutest thing I'd ever seen in my entire life. I felt my eyes water in thought as I stared at her squeezing Adonis's hands tight. I was selfish, thinking of myself in this moment. Never getting this experience, to be the Mother in the bed and Adonis holding his child on the arm chair. It was okay, I'd be okay.
We'd find another way, but this one was unfair. This one was heartbreaking at the moment, but Lila couldn't know. I wouldn't ruin today for her.
"She's perfect Lila" I release Adonis's hand and walk to her bedside gently pulling her in for a hug. I place a kiss on her forehead as she holds me tight, "You're a mama" I whispered proud.
"Heard about the scare you gave Ace" She looked up at me, she knew I was worried. I'd never not be worried about her, but felt even more guilty expressing it in this moment.
"I'm okay, I promise" She gives my hand a light squeeze as I look over to the little girl.
"Her name is Kingsley" She whispers, I look to Beth as she can't keep her eyes off of her.
