My last application went out, there was no indication of what I'd do with those responses. I got a check in the mail the other day, it's ripped into two in the trash can.

Half a million dollars just laid in an envelope, as if it were nothing. I couldn't believe it and I think my mom would question me. I hadn't informed her of Alex and his return.

I knew I should, I knew I should tell Lila as well. But she'd been quiet for a bit, I questioned if everything was alright. But I wasn't going to be one to push or bother her.

She had her life to live with graduation coming closer. It was Aces birthday a few days back, she'd gone radio silent since. I check in with Adonis and he said he'd check in on her. But he seemed weird about it.

So when my phone buzzed with her contact I almost broke my phone answering.

But it was to something I didn't want to hear, sniffles. She was sobbing on the other line, because from what I could muster up, Ace was gone for some time.

I didn't know what it meant, I didn't know what to do. But I found my keys in hand rushing out of my dorm. Because she needed me and I'd be there, it's the oath we took as friends. She needed me more than ever.

I feel almost frozen as I digest her words. She stands looking at me pale nibbling on a saltine. It looked like she's lost weight, all this stress.

Ace was gone for months or years, we didn't know. But all I knew what that she was left devastated and worse.

She was pregnant, I wanted to be delighted. I wanted to cheer and scream and hug her tight. But that's not what she needed, she needed help. It was written all over her face in fear, doing it alone. Ace might not know about his child, and I hated him in this moment.

For leaving her in this state. Just mere weeks after her incident over Christmas. He leaves her in such a fragile state where she seems to need him. But I knew Lila, she didn't need him. She was strong and independent, she'd make it through this.

So I find her in my arms as I hold her tight, my best friend was having a baby. She was doing it alone, but she'd never really be alone. She'd always have me.

"I'm here for you bubbas" I whisper, "I can't believe your pregnant" I let the slight excitement leave my voice as I hold her.

I'd whip Adonis's ass later for not telling me if he knew. I couldn't believe it, he was gone, she was pregnant. I was here to pick up the pieces of what this ass hole left. I didn't care if I had to do it, I hated that he wouldn't be here for it.

Days went by of this, her being basically mute. Laying in bed and only getting up for meals and classes. She wasn't doing well, I'd never seen her look this bad. Her skin was discolored as her face was empty. Not a spark of Hope left, it was just desolate.
