The next day, the sun was already overhead and the sounds of ocean waves woke me up.
“Ah, man. That sleep was longer than I intended.” I groan, pushing myself up. I sigh, looking out at the bright blue sky, before slowly glancing over me and seeing Alex shift in her sleep. She groans, blinking uncontrollably and looking up at me.
“What time is it?” “11:30.” I respond, looking at my phone. I head for the kitchen to make breakfast while Alex washes up in the bathroom. I prep a simple meal for us much to Alex's dismay.
“Really? Bacon and eggs? Do we have any bread at least?” She scoffs, walking into the room. I smirk, sliding the plate towards her.
“Coffee is also there if you want some.” “Thanks.”
“We woke up a little too late.” I chuckle, sipping on my coffee. “Yes. And you gotta lower your caffeine intake.” I roll my eyes at her. “Don't analyze me. I'm on vacation.”
“Still. Drink some tea.” “I'd rather die.” I grin at her. She scoffs and starts eating.
“C'mon. Let's go tan. I'm desperate.” I whine. “Yeah, yeah, I'll be right there. Let me eat first.” She narrows her brows at me.
I grab my mat, towel and sunscreen and I head for the beach. I lay my mat down and sit, applying the sunscreen on myself.
“What a beautiful day. I'm glad you asked me to come along with you, Dee. I didn't know I needed this.”
“You and me both.” I smirk, laying down.
“So? Any life update I should be getting from you?” She asks, applying sunscreen on herself. I smile and shake my head. “Nah. I think I'm starting to feel content. I'm happy now. I'm enjoying my life. And truth be told, I kinda miss Adam.”
“Really?” Her eyes light up, as she glances at me. “Yes, really.” “I'm glad you finally moved on. I'm happy for you.”
“Me too. I've come so far in life. And the best thing I know is moving on. I'm ready for whatever happens. Although I must tell you, it's my last straw. No more.”
“I know. Anyway, it's gonna be great! I'm glad you're better, Dee. Oh! I'm so excited!”
I chuckle, putting my shades on. “Me too, Al.”
“Hmm, I really wanna get in the water. You wanna come?”
“Not yet. I just ate. I'll come after a while.” “Okay. Well I'm just gonna go dip my feet in.” She gets up and runs to the water, joyfully kicking the water as she reaches shore.
I chuckle, watching her. A bong on my phone goes off and I check it to see who it is. Ah, Adam. A smile appears on my face as I open the message.
“How's vacation? Thinking of you.” He says.
“Really nice so far. Missing me too much?”
“You know it. Can't even sleep alone anymore.”
“So dramatic.”
“Yeah well, I enjoyed your company so much I didn't know what else to do. So guess what?”
“What?”
“I've got the guesthouse started. I'm hoping maybe in 4 months it'll be done.”
“Can't wait to see it.”
“You'll be here to see the result. By my side?”
“Where else would I rather be?” I smirk.
“When are you coming back?”
“Soon. Give me more time. I'm enjoying myself too much.”
“I'd rather you not enjoy yourself when I'm still around. Come back soon. I've got something waiting for you.”
“A surprise? You're making me wanna come home sooner.”
“Good. Come back soon.”
“You know it.”I put my phone down with a smile on my face. I get up and walk towards Alex who has finally immersed herself in the water.
“What's with the fat smile on your face?” She asks, staring at me awkwardly. “Nothing. Just Adam.”
“You're whack for this guy!” She states, with a sly grin on her face. “Fuck! He's driving you crazy!” “Shut up, Al. It's just really nice finally having someone I can vibe with.” “Mm.” She gives me a side glance.
“Shut up!” I laugh, slapping the water towards her. “Fuck! You're gonna get it now!” She threatens, splashing the water back at me. “Let this sink in, Dee. It might only get better.”
