"How did it go?" Alex asks, running to me as I walk into the house. "It was shit." I frown, heading towards the kitchen. "Food's ready. We can talk about it."

She grabs two plates and places them on the countertop, pouring cheesy pasta onto the plates. "So? What happened?"

"He said he was arrested that night, Calvin bailed him out." "Okay? Couldn't he bother finding you?"

"He said he's got eyes on him everywhere." "But he robbed a store a while back?" "Could be a corrupt cop. Letting him loose."

"He was on the news, Dee." "He was dead. I don't know what happened." "This is all very suspicious." "He's asking me for one more hit. I know I'm not gonna do that. It's all in the past now, Al. How can I? I have a job. I have Adam."

I shake my head. "Avoid him, don't do it okay? Let's just forget about it. Now that you know he's alive and still doing the same shit, it's more reason for you to ignore him." She points her fork at me. "You're right. Let's just enjoy this vacation. Soon, it's time to go home." I smile, taking a plate from her.

"Exactly. This life you have now, it's great, Dixie. It's amazing. You have a job, you enjoy spending time with the kids, we can hang out all the time without you having to run away every time you rob a store and...you have someone who's good for you."

I smile and nod, digging into the meal. "Absolutely. If that son of a bitch comes back again, I'm gonna be fucked. I don't want him near you though. So...we might have to cut our vacation short." "Understandable. I was gonna suggest the same." I chuckle, pulling out my phone.

"This fucking sucks man. I was just starting to enjoy my life. Ha! I guess when life goes up, something is bound to go down." I roll my eyes, booking a ticket back to California. "That's how it is, anyway, Princess. It's fucked up."

"We're leaving tomorrow. Noon." "Good. I wanna leave soon. I can't bear the thought of staying here longer with that guy around." "Me too."

I frown, leaning my cheek on the palm of my hand. "I'm sorry, Dee. I wish this never happened. I hope you'll be okay." She smiles. "I will. I just need to figure out how to keep him off my tail."

"Don't worry. I think it'll be okay. Let's just forget about this, eh?" I nod, continuing my meal. "Let's just hope it dies down soon."
