Entanglement

As the days passed since that unexpected kiss, I found myself constantly questioning why I had let it happen. Every time I crossed paths with Ronin, I couldn't shake the desire to experience that feeling again. But I'm straight, aren't I?

"It's already Monday, huh? The weekend surely flew by," I remarked in an attempt to lighten the mood for my mom, who was quietly cleaning the dishes.

She responded with a noncommittal sound, and I couldn't help but feel guilty for the scene I caused. I imagined how embarrassed she must have felt after my outburst.

Struggling to keep my eyes open, I trudged into my bedroom. The night before, Ronin and I had a gaming session that left both of us exhausted. Collapsing onto my bed, I felt a strange warmth next to me. "It's probably nothing," I reasoned, drifting off to sleep to the sound of the wind whistling outside.

As the sunlight seeped through the window, I blinked my eyes open, disoriented. The first thing I noticed was the unfamiliar surroundings of the room. Confusion set in as I realized I wasn't in my own bed. Then, the sensation of an arm wrapped around me sent a jolt of panic through my body.

"Wait... this isn't my bed," I muttered, my heart rate increasing. The arm around me tightened slightly, and I froze, realizing whose bed I was in.

"Is this... Ronin's bed?" The thought sent a shiver down my spine.

I turned my head slowly, coming face to face with Ronin's peaceful expression. His steady breaths and relaxed features made me momentarily forget the panic building inside me. But the realization of our proximity snapped me back to reality.

"Why am I even here?" I whispered to myself, trying to piece together the events of the previous night.

As I attempted to extricate myself from Ronin's grasp, I felt his muscular arms hold me in place. A strange mix of comfort and discomfort washed over me, and I struggled to untangle myself.

Just as I reached for my phone to silence the blaring alarm, Ronin stirred awake. I held my breath, hoping he wouldn't notice the awkward situation we found ourselves in. With a sigh of relief, I managed to turn off the alarm before his eyes fully opened.

I finally freed myself from Ronins sighing in relief.

As we walked towards school, Ronin seemed lost in thought, his expression puzzled. He let out a yawn, breaking the silence.

"Hey, Liam, can I share something with you?" Ronin's voice was hesitant.

"Sure, what's up?" I replied, curious about what he wanted to say.

"I had this really strange dream last night," Ronin began, his cheeks flushing slightly.

"Oh? What was it about?" I asked, intrigued.

*

"It's kind of embarrassing, but in the dream, I was holding you tightly," Ronin admitted, a sheepish smile playing on his lips.

I couldn't help but feel a twinge at his words. "Dreams can be pretty random sometimes," I said, trying to brush off the awkwardness.

"Yeah, definitely," Ronin agreed, though his expression remained thoughtful.

After a few hours in class, break finally arrived. I made my way towards the P.E. meeting James there.

"Where's Evelyn?" I asked, sliding into the seat beside him.

"She had to stay after class," James murmured between bites of his Subway sandwich.

"You're really going to eat all of that?" I raised an eyebrow, eyeing the overstuffed sandwich.

"What, do you want some?" James chuckled, offering me a portion.

"Don't mind if I do," I replied with a smirk, grabbing a piece of the sandwich. Normally, I packed my lunch, but I guess this was part of my punishment.

"I'm sorry about my outburst last Friday. I just got so emotionally overwhelmed and I—" James began, his hand finding its way to my shoulder, a sincere smile on his face.

"It's fine, really. You're a big crybaby, and it's not the first time. Plus, it was low-key entertaining," I said, patting his back playfully.

"Why, you—" I started, but before he could finish, James lunged at me, and we both toppled to the floor in a jumble of limbs and laughter. In that moment, the tension from Friday evaporated, replaced by our laughter. "Is this what they called living in the moment?', I thought to myself.

"Fuck, how could you squish my perfect sub??" James sighed dramatically.

"Since I'm a good friend, I'll share half of mine," I smirked, breaking my sandwich in two.

"Dude, you do realize it's still my sandwich," James scoffed, just as the door slammed open.

"Evelyn," we both exclaimed, but our excitement quickly faded when we noticed her slumped posture as she sat next to us.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, moving closer and placing my arm around her shoulders. She didn't shrug it off, which was a relief.

Evelyn slowly lifted her head, her expression pale and troubled. It was unsettling to see her usually composed demeanor shaken like this.

"There's been these rumors spreading, and I think... Mia started them," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
