"James, we're here!" I yelled aloud as Evelyn, Ronin, and I stood outside of his house.
"Just knock like a normal person," Evelyn scolded with a swift chop to my head.
"You both are being loud," Ronin chuckled.
"Geez, you're so freaking loud," James arrived at the door, bare-chested, with a sandwich in hand.
"Oh, it's nice to see you here, Ronin. Come in, don't forget to take your shoes off," he said gleefully.
Every time I came here, it always surprised me how clean and neat his house was, totally unlike him. His house was plastered with Japanese paintings and sculptures; it was always intriguing to learn the meaning behind them, but James didn't seem to care at all. As we traveled to his room, Ronin couldn't help but be in awe of every nook and cranny of the house.
"Welcome to my casa," he muttered, opening the door to his room.
"It must be fun not having to share a room," Ronin scoffed, smirking at me.
"It definitely was fun," I retorted with a witty comeback.
"I can get us some snacks. I think there's some leftover pizza and coke for whatever reason you guys came here for," James muttered.
"James, it's fine. Sit down, please," I murmured.
"But I wanted snacks," Evelyn said under her breath.
"Why so serious?" James asked, noticing us surrounding him like a flock of eagles.
"What's going on between you and Elliott?" I questioned.
"What are you talking about? Why would anything go on between me and him?" his eyes avoiding my gaze.
"C'mon, James, we've known you for so long, and it's not like you to keep secrets," Evelyn added.
James took a deep breath, wiping the sweat from his forehead. "Me and Elliott are in a relationship."
"What!?" we all said in unison, our faces full of shock and disbelief.
"Elliott is into dudes... wait, you're gay?" I said, panicked.
"I always knew it," Evelyn smirked proudly.
"When'd it start?" Ronin asked.
"You guys really came all the way over here just to ask that? Jeez, what wonderful friends," James sighed.
"It started about a month ago. We began talking, then that led to texting, but we made sure to keep it all hush hush for now, at least. Things kind of kicked up into high gear during the rugby camp."
"So, that's why you disappeared a lot. You went to him," I puzzled together as James nodded in agreement. Still, the shock of James being gay was glaring; we always jokingly did some gay stuff, but finding out he actually is...
"I spoke to him yesterday about coming out to you guys, and he thought it wasn't the right time," James said.
"So, that's their conversation from yesterday," I thought aloud.
Evelyn grabbed both me and James in a group hug, gesturing for Ronin to join us. "So, my best friends turn out to be gay. How precious," she giggled. Evelyn showing a lot of emotion was always such a rare moment.
"I'm bisexual, not gay," I protested.
"So what if I'm gay," James added, being suffocated by the hug.
"Well, uh, me and Liam are in a relationship," Ronin casually declared.
If things weren't already shocking, it went up into high gear. James and Evelyn looked at each other and then to us.
"It was already hard to believe the kiss part, but this," James's words trembled with shock.
"Why the fuck did you have to come out at my house!"
"Shut up," Evelyn pushed James to the ground, her cheeks red out of excitement. "I'm so glad for you both," she giggled.
All I could do was stare at Ronin in awe. I really didn't think he'd come out, but I felt warmth wash over me when he did. Ronin's my boyfriend sounds unbelievable if you told me this a week ago.
"Who's top, who's bottom?" James asked, but Evelyn jabbed him in his side, silencing him.
"Who's top or bottom? I never really thought about it." I quickly focused my gaze on Ronin; he looked puzzled. He must've been thinking the same. How do you decide on who's bottom or top? Play rock-paper-scissors? Measure dick sizes? We all know who's winning that contest.
"Anyways, it's great that we all came out. Still waiting on you, Evelyn," James pointed in her direction. "We have a bigger issue to discuss. The sleeping arrangements for the trip."
"Is it really that important?" I asked, laying down on a bean bag.
"It's very important, actually. So, it'll be me, Elliot, you, and Ronin, but then there's one last person. The big issue is Elliot and William are basically best friends, and the chances of William being the fifth are high.
"Fuck, that's a dilemma," I admitted. The idea of sharing a room with William gives me the chills, and not the good kind that Ronin gives me.
"Then we just need to find someone willing to join us," Ronin said.
The next school morning began, and unlike other mornings, Ronin decided to sit with us. James promoted his seat as Ronin sat down next to me. It was pretty hard keeping our affection at a low, and I knew he felt the same. From under the table, I held out my pinkie as he wrapped his around mine. We shared a chuckle at how stupid that was.
After roll call, the real mission began: choosing a fitting roommate. Someone chill, not a complete narcissist, importantly not a snitch. There he was, Victor. He was the know-it-all typical nerdy guy, yet he seemed more chill than the other guys in class.
