~Recap~
He's calling the paramedics . He is trying to save your life, Stella.
I tried to watch Conner but it was hard. I barely could see anything through the darkness that was closing in on me. "Stella," Conner looked over at my eyes to see if I was still alive, "there are poeple are there way to come bring you to the hospital." I tried to protest but all that came out was a moan. "Shh, Stell." He picked up my head and rested it in his lap, trying to keep the towel on my wrist.
Before everything went completely black, I forced out a sentence, "I love you, Conner."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++I woke up with Conner looking down at me, his innocent blue eyes hardened by the time that has past over the last six years. Sitting up, I smiled at him and he returned the smile whole heartedly. "Want some breakfast?" I asked through a yawn. He kissed me, "No. I have all I need for the morning." I yawned a second time and asked, "What's today's date?"
"The anniversary."
The smile faded as I remembered the day that I tried to leave Conner here in this sad excuse of a world. I looked down at the same arm that now proudly wore a beautiful engagment ring. There was a long scar, reaching from the bend in my wrist to halfway up my arm. I glared at it. My eyes watered and I tried wiping them away. I was retreating into myself. I waited for my voice to say something but she was gone. Taken by the people that helped me through what they called depression and what I called hell. Their version was much more civilized then what most teens thought of it.
Conner kissed my temple and stood from the bed, making me feel alone in a ship lost at sea. The feeling ended quickly because Conner had returned almost instantly and dragged me into our quilt. "No thinking of that," he kissed my temple. "Today is a day of good thoughts and happy endings."
"We don't live in a fairy tale, Conner ."
"Stell, everyday that I wake up with you beside me I feel like I'm in a fairy tale."
I smiled once again at that. "Come on. I need a mug of hot cocoa and a muffin for breakfast."
"Then a muffin and cocoa you will have, my dear."
I got up from the bed and threw on one of Conner's old tees and some jeans. He got up and put on a newer tee and some jeans too before we headed out for a café that was an hour away.
But who gave a damn what we did?
My mother didn't. When I moved out she was over joyed. Conner's dad gave him the money for the small two bedroom apartment in Chicago and bought him a new car so his mom could keep his old one. No tears were shed when we left that god forsaken town. We cheered when we passed the small sign that bared the name if the town and the small population underneath it. No missed us, and we didn't miss anyone.
We had to leave our mark on the world somehow, and you won't do that by sitting in an apartment all day. Even if you are with someone who saved your life in more than one way.
