"Send the voice recording to the HR department and ask them to disclose the information as soon as possible. Also, book the flight tickets," I said, glancing at the clock on the wall. Every second mattered now. I needed to act quickly before things spiraled any further out of control.

Lucy, my assistant, nodded efficiently. "Miss Jane, I've checked the tickets, and the earliest flight is in the evening, about seven hours later. Why don't you go back to the hotel to rest for now?"

"Okay," I responded, my mind racing through the events of the day. It had been a whirlwind-a press conference gone wrong, tension in the office, and now this sudden need to leave the country. Still, I felt oddly calm, as if I'd been expecting everything to unfold this way.

Back at my hotel, I let out a long sigh, finally sitting on the bed. The cool sheets felt reassuring against my skin. I stared blankly at the window, unfazed by the series of events that had played out. I had been through worse, after all. Whatever storm was brewing, I told myself, I could handle it.

Just as I was about to close my eyes for a moment of rest, there was a knock at the door. I frowned slightly, glancing at the clock-it was late, and Lucy hadn't mentioned anything about needing to come up here. "What does she want to inform me of so late at night?" I muttered, standing up.

Without much thought, I crossed the room and opened the door, expecting Lucy's familiar face. But the hallway was empty. No one was there. The soft glow of the corridor lights flickered, and a chill ran down my spine.

"Lucy?" I called out softly, stepping outside the room, peering down both ends of the hallway. It was eerily silent. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end as I turned around, ready to retreat inside and shut the door when-

Suddenly, strong arms wrapped around me from behind, locking my arms against my sides. My heart leapt in my chest, panic flooding my senses. Before I could scream, a hand clamped over my mouth. I twisted, trying to kick my attacker, but they were much too strong.

I struggled fiercely, my body thrashing against theirs, but I couldn't free myself. My breath came in ragged gasps as I tried to scream through the hand that muffled my voice. My mind raced-who could have done this? Was this someone from the industry? A competitor? Someone who knew about the voice recording?

My thoughts were cut off as I felt a sharp sting in my neck. Something cold seeped into my veins, and the world around me began to spin. My strength ebbed away, my limbs growing heavy. The walls of the hotel blurred in my vision, the distant hum of the air conditioner becoming distorted and far away.

I was slipping under, consciousness fading fast.

When I woke up, my whole body felt like it had been weighed down by lead. My head throbbed, and my vision was blurry, disoriented. I blinked several times, struggling to take in my surroundings. This wasn't my hotel room. It was dimly lit, and the air was cold, sterile even, like I was in some kind of basement or warehouse. The walls were bare, except for a single, flickering light hanging from the ceiling. The floor beneath me was hard and rough-concrete.

I tried to move, but my wrists were bound tightly behind my back, the coarse rope biting into my skin. Panic surged through me again as I tried to remember what had happened. The knock on my door. The hallway. Someone grabbing me. That voice...
