Ruby Jane

It's been 1026 days

1026 days, and still, I count the moments since I left it all behind. Korea, my dreams, my friends… and most painfully, you.

I miss you. I miss us.

I wish I could see you one last time before I go, but deep down, I know you wouldn’t let me. You never would. You’d hold on too tight, even when I had to let go. I’m sorry for leaving like that, without giving you a chance to stop me, but I saw no other way. Things were spiraling out of control, and I feared that if I hadn’t made this choice, it would have affected you. The fans would’ve turned on you, too. And I couldn’t let that happen.

I know how much you love your fans, how much you love standing on that stage, hearing their cheers. I couldn’t stand in the way of that, not when it’s your everything. I couldn’t let you lose it all because of me.

So I made the choice for you, for both of us.

I know it was hard, maybe impossible to understand at first. But it had to be done. The truth is, we had to choose. Love or career. You may not have realized it then, but I did. Staying with me could have ended everything for you. I wasn’t willing to watch your world fall apart because of me, so I shattered mine instead.

Even now, I wonder if things could have been different. I wonder why we, as idols, had to live under such harsh rules. Why can’t we love, live, and be free? Why must our personal happiness be sacrificed for an image?

I question it every single day.

Maybe, just maybe, things will change for others. Maybe someday idols will be allowed to live complete lives, with love, marriage, and everything they deserve. I hope that change comes. I hope that they find support from the people who claim to love them. After all, idols are human too. We deserve to love, to be loved, and to build a life outside of the stage lights.

But that change wasn’t for us.

I hope you’re living a happy life now, without regret, without looking back. Don’t miss me, okay? Move on, oppa. We weren’t meant to be, and maybe that’s just how it had to be.

Thank you, though. Thank you for being the light in my life, even if only for a short time. Those were the happiest moments, and I’ll carry them with me forever.

From the deepest part of my heart, I’m grateful.

As Jennie drifted back to the present, shaking off the lingering thoughts of what could have been, the voice of her assistant pierced through her reverie.

"Ms. Jane," the assistant called, her tone professional and urgent, "the board of directors are waiting for you in the meeting room."

Jennie straightened up, her mind snapping back to reality. "I’m coming," she replied,With a deep breath, she stood, smoothing down her sleek blazer before heading to the meeting room.

As she walked in, the hum of conversation fell silent, and the board members stood in unison out of respect. Jennie made her way to the head of the table, sitting in the middlemost chair, her gaze calm and steady as everyone else followed suit.

One of the senior directors, a seasoned man with black sleek hair, spoke first. "Congratulations, Ms. Jane. The new product launch was a resounding success. Sales have surged this month, and the market response has been overwhelmingly positive."

"Thank you," Jennie replied with a small nod. "It wouldn’t have been possible without all of you. I truly appreciate your hard work and dedication."

A murmur of agreement spread through the room, the sense of accomplishment palpable among the group.

"We trust that next month’s launch will follow in these successful footsteps," another board member added. "We’re confident in your leadership."

Jennie acknowledged the comment with a poised smile. "Thank you all for your contributions. I know we’ll continue to build on this momentum. The meeting is dismissed."

As the board members began to file out, Jennie turned and left the room, her assistant, Lucy, falling into step beside her.

"Ms. Jane," Lucy began, her tablet in hand, "we have a meeting with the investors this afternoon, and we need to visit the workshop for product testing this evening."

Jennie nodded, her mind already calculating the next steps. "Alright. Make sure all the data is ready for the investor meeting, and coordinate with the team for the workshop visit. We need everything to run smoothly today."

"Of course," Lucy said, tapping notes into her tablet.

Jennie made her way back to her office, her heels clicking against the polished floor. She knew the demands of her position required her to constantly be moving forward, never pausing for too long. Success was fleeting if you didn’t keep pushing, and Jennie was nothing if not relentless.

As she sat down at her desk, her eyes scanned the reports and emails awaiting her. Her phone buzzed quietly—another reminder of her packed schedule. She couldn’t afford to drift off into memories again, not today.

There were too many battles to be fought, too many victories yet to be won.
