Although Michael and Renée insisted on Chloe spending another night with them, she insisted on getting back to her own life for a while.
She'd been away from Dinah and Victoria for a few days. And if she wasn't careful, she'd mess around and just move in with the couple with no notice to them. She didn't want to be careless.
With an eventful end to their magical time together, Chloe returned to Dinah and Victoria's apartment. She dished out every detail to them, them eagerly taking everything in only after they softly chastised her for being MIA for more than forty-eight hours straight.
They decided to have dinner together, just the three of them. It was over dinner that Chloe told them about Normani visiting her – how therapeutic it was to feel her presence and look into her celestial eyes that still felt like home.
What she didn't know was that Normani visited Dinah a few weeks prior. The ebony wanted to check in on the little family she still had on the surface world, and she felt bad that her royal duties in the underworld prevented her from doing so.
With a happy heart and a full stomach, Chloe retired to her room for the night. For the first time in a while, she was able to get to sleep quickly and easily.
But she still had that peculiar dream. The type of dream that didn't make sense, but did at the same time.
She was on a beach whose shores had no water. The sand was white, almost as white as the sky above her. And though she didn't see the sun, everything around her was bright.
She'd always do a little bit of wandering before coming into the sights of a beautiful woman. She had long, jet black braids that cascaded downward until their ends reached the sand. Her copper skin glowed enchantingly as she laid clad in a shimmery grey bathing suit.
But what Chloe paid attention to the most were her eyes. Her eyes were as dark as Normani's used to be, but they held tiny specs of gold in them, almost like they were galaxies holding stars in place. Her enticing stare always kept Chloe stuck where she was.
The woman's minimal smile always lured Chloe in more and more. It was almost like she could physically see her, though, for all Chloe knew, this was just her brain's way of being comforted when there was no one left to hold her at night, anymore.
Either way, the dread-headed woman fell for it every time. It was comforting. And it was an escape she relied on since Normani's passing.
But unlike most times she had this dream, this time around was different. The woman usually never spoke. But with every step Chloe took to get to her, she could hear a faint whisper become more persistent.
