June

Finally, it was the last day of school; exams were over, I'd passed my apparition exam and the sun was shining. I hoped I'd done exceptionally well in my NEWT exams, but I guess I'd find out over the summer. Next year was our last year, I was turning 17 in a couple of days, so I'd have the whole summer to do magic outside out school. I couldn't wait.

I was currently relaxing near the lake with my friends on a free period. Becka was lying across my legs while I absentmindedly stroked her blonde hair. We had established a relationship at this point and the rest of the group were really happy for us.

The others had found out about my real parentage last month, when they'd overheard me and Becka talking. I'd confessed everything to them, and luckily they took it really well and didn't abandon me like I was scared they were going to.

'So Ezza, what's the plan?' Tyler asked. 'For us coming to see you?'

'My mum wants to just spend time with me for a couple of weeks to catch up on everything and then you guys can come and visit. There's plenty of rooms at the manor so you guys can take your pick about where you're sleeping. You'll love the view from the house, the beach is only a ten minute walk away, or a second, if you passed your apparition exam like me.' I grinned.

'Hmm, a romantic picnic on the beach, I like the sound of that.' Becka hinted, smiling up at me.

'I hope you're not thinking of monopolising Erin the whole time we're there, Becka.' Rosa joked. 'That'd be cringe.'

'You're just jealous.' Tristan laughed.

'Oh please.' Rosa scoffed. 'I don't need a boyfriend. Relationships are overrated.'

'Guys, we should start heading up to the end-of-year feast.' Tyler reminded us getting up. We all agreed, and started heading back up to the castle.

The next morning

'Guys, get a bloody move on!' Tristan roared. 'We need to get the best compartment on the train, we're seniors!'

'Shut up Tristan, we're coming!' Rosa yelled, laughing. Everything just seemed so funny now that we were finally going home and away from this loony bin.

We soon all got on, getting a really good secluded compartment; Becka threw herself onto a seat, pulling me with her.

'Hey guys, watch this.' Tyler grinned evilly as he snuck towards the next compartment, quietly opening the door and chucking a dung-bomb as hard as he could, before shutting the door and running back over and joining us.

Within seconds, we heard the disgusted screams of fellow students trying to escape the nasty stench. We all howled with laughter. The sounds of the students moving further up the train could be heard. 'At least we've now got this end to ourselves.' Rosa laughed,

'Ah, classic.' Tristan chuckled.

We spent the next hour playing exploding snap and eating junk. We occasionally wandered up and down the train if we got bored, annoying other students and bullying Gryffindor's. I even passed Lee Jordan at one point who was with Fred and George Weasley. He smiled tentatively at me but I simply nodded once. We hadn't spoken in a long time.

Eventually we settled down, sat in silence or chatting quietly now and then. The sun was still high in the sky, and it was boiling hot so we opened a couple of windows at the top.

'Hey guys, what do you think-' Becka started to say, before the train screeched to a halt suddenly, taking us all by surprise.

'We can't surely be at King's Cross already?' Rosa asked, mystified, as Tyler poked his head out the compartment to see what was going on.

'No, we shouldn't get there until at least six.' Tristan shook his head. 'Maybe the train has broken down?'

'Doubt it.' I disagreed. 'Unless there's something on the tracks blocking it?'

'I'm going to find someone, see if they know something.' Tyler told us, heading down the train.

We all sat in silence, worried.

'I mean, if there's an obstruction on the tracks, it can be easily removed with a spell.' Becka said, breaking the tense silence. We couldn't hear other students panicking, so it must have been something totally normal.

A couple of minutes had passed before Tyler returned.

But he wasn't alone.

3 grown men accompanied Tyler; a black-haired one had him by the scruff of his collar and threw him back into the compartment. Tyler landed on Rosa, apologising profusely.

These men were slightly scruffy and dangerous-looking, in all black with their wands drawn. And then I saw the forearm of one of them who had his sleeves rolled up. It was bearing the Dark Mark.

Death Eaters.

My blood ran cold.

My dad wasn't among them, I would have recognised him; my mum had shown me old photos of me and him when I was first born.

'Now, which one of you would be Erin Travers?' The one at the front asked menacingly. Oh god. This had to do with my dad.

'And what would you want with her?' Tristan retorted, not looking at me, so as not to give me away.

'It's none of your business, boy.' The black-haired one who'd had Tyler sneered. 'Now tell us, or we'll make you.' His wand emitted sparks. I wasn't going to let them hurt my friends.

'It's me.' I stood up.

'Erin, no!' Becka pulled my arm.

'You'll be coming with us, missy.' The one at the front said. 'Or we'll hurt your friends.'

'Fine, just leave them alone.' I said defiantly.

'Erin, don't!' Rosa cried. 'Don't go with them!'

'I'm sorry, I've got to!' I shook my head. 'Don't worry about me, just get a message to my mum explaining what's happened and that I love her.'

Tristan drew his wand which was a mistake, because of the Death-Eaters swiped the air in front of Tristan, and he fell back with a gash across his face. Tyler and Rosa rushed to his aid. The Death-Eaters dragged me out of the compartment and off the train. Not long after we'd got off the train, it started moving again on it's way back to London. We were surrounded by endless fields.

I turned to them. 'What is this about?' I asked, but my fear betrayed me.

The black-haired one smirked. 'The Dark Lord would like a word with you.'

'What? No-' I was cut off as the same Death-Eater grabbed my arm and instantly apparated.

I braced against the unpleasant sensation of being pulled through a tight rubber tube, before a couple of seconds later, I was gasping for humid summer air again as I blinked in the bright sunlight, taking in my surroundings.

High hedges surrounded us on either side, a white peacock strutted on top of the left hedge. A pair of wrought iron gates stood before us, opening automatically as we approached.

I took in the huge manor house, even bigger than my mothers house. It was beautiful but foreboding.

'Where are we?' I asked, but got completely ignored.

I was really terrified now. What did the Dark Lord want with me?
