The next morning I headed down to the Great Hall, and had to ask someone for directions, as I couldn't remember.
'Excuse me.' From the colours of his robes, I deduced that he was a fellow Slytherin.
'Yes?' He raised an eyebrow. 'You're very small, aren't you?'
I rolled my eyes, ignoring his comment on my height. 'I was just wondering if you could show me to the Great Hall?'
'You've forgotten?' He said in slight surprise and then sighed. 'C'mon then... I'm headed there anyway.'
So I hurried after him, and in no time we were there. 'Thank you. I'm Erin, by the way.'
'Montague.' He rolled his eyes once more, going in.
I went inside myself, and headed over to the Slytherin table.
I decided to sit on my own, as I didn't really know anyone yet. The only people I'd met so far were Gryffindors and I was steering well clear of them.
I helped myself to some toast, and saw that we were having our timetables handed out.
A thin man with sallow skin and dark black hair was handing out our timetables. This must be Professor Snape, our head of house.
'Right... Erin Brooks.' He finally reached me, handing me my timetable.
I studied it. Today I had double Transfiguration, Herbology, Defence against the Dark Arts and Potions. Hmm... interesting day it should be then.
When breakfast was over, I slung my bag over my shoulder and headed over to Transfiguration, which we had with the Ravenclaws.
I had a bit of trouble finding it, so I ended up being a bit late.
'I'm sorry I'm late Professor, I got lost.' I said, as I came in.
'Quite understandable on your first day Miss Brooks.' Professor McGonagall said crisply. 'Take a seat.'
I took a seat at the back next to a pretty dark haired girl and put my bag next to my seat. It was lucky I'd got away with that.
I resolved to not be late again. The last thing I needed was attention being drawn to me, and here I was, drawing attention to myself in five minutes.
The double lesson went fairly quickly. We were just taking notes today, on theory, before we used our wands in this lesson. Professor McGonagall was relatively kind, but definitely strict and not someone you should cross.
I headed down to Herbology next, which was with the Gryffindors. There'd better not be any trouble in this lesson. I'd noticed last night that the Gryffindors and Slytherins didn't like each other.
I soon arrived; it was easier to find as it was outside. I went into the greenhouse we were allocated to and the first person I saw was Lee Jordan. He smiled when I came in, but I didn't return the smile. I felt bad, but it had to be like this. For all I knew, he was muggle-born.

By the time the day was over, I was exhausted, but pleased. I'd survived my first day. The majority of the Slytherins were irratable but quite friendly. I'd had no trouble from the Gryffindors, and the other two houses were alright too.
The teachers were quite friendly, and Professor Snape even praised my work in Potions today. He was very sarcastic and strict but he seemed satisfied by my work today.
I found that I wasn't entirely useless in my subjects. I was catching on really quick. But it was only my first day. A lot could change in a year or two.
As I headed down the Slytherin common room after dinner, I decided to write a letter to my mother. She'd want to know how my day went, and I was eager to tell her.
