Lynda and him ended up making their way back to North Carolina after the season ended. He was busy doing some tasks for NASCAR, so he gave her the job to go find them a ranch to purchase.
Lynda went ranch searching with Tex. She hated all of the ones she was seeing. Either the house wasn't what they were looking for, the acres they were looking for was too small, or too large, etc. it just wasn't what they were looking for.
It did not help that she was feeling sick a lot more often as of late.
Tex got her a sweet tea as they walked around the little town Strip grew up at. Tex also had a home purchased here so he was relatively close to strip when he was kid.
Lynda sighed. "These houses are... not the most promising." She said as they walked.
"Yeah. They aren't great." Tex said as he sipped his drink.
Then. Lynda had an idea. She stopped and looked at him. "Where did strip grow up?"
Tex looked at her. "Uh... a few miles west of here. Why?"
"Take me there." She said as she turned to go back to his car. Tex just went along with it.
He pulled up to a little white house with a wrap around porch. It had gray shutters and flowers all around it.
There was a for sale sign outside. She stepped out of the car and walked up to the front door. "How come he doesn't live here?" She asked Tex.
Tex had his hands shoved into his pockets. "Well... his parents died when he was 10. So, he couldn't necessarily afford to keep this house." Tex sat on a swinging bench. The one he used to sit on with strips father.
She sat next to him. And nodded a bit. "I understand..." she closed her eyes and sighed a bit. "This is the house."
Tex looked at her surprised. "Oh?"
"Yeah. It'll be a surprise." She said with a soft smile. Tex just wrapped and arm around her and pushed the swing. "You're a good kid."
He said with a chuckle. "Wouldn't it be nice seeing the next generation of Weathers living here?"
"It would be pretty nice."
Lynda ended up contacting the realtor. Got the contract, signed it, and just went to get Strips signature.
She walked into the place he was doing a photo shoot for. He was in some outfit. She liked it, but she could dress him better.
She crept in and waved. He smiled and waved. He told the photographer he needed a break, and quickly rushed over to her. "Hey sunshine." He kissed her cheek.
"Hey baby." She said with a smile. He noticed her holding a folder. "How's house hunting? I'm sorry I can't go with you..."
"It's okay. It went well, I found the house. Just need you to sign the contract, that's all." She said as she opened the folder and pointed at where he needed to sign.
"Awesome." He signed it.
"We can move in tomorrow since the home hasn't had an owner for awhile." She said as she closed the folder.
"Perfect." He smiled a bit as he looked at her. He kissed her gently. "Love you."
"Love you too." She said with a soft smile. He kissed her once more before he got called to come back over.
"See you later." He said as he walked off. She waved and then headed out where Tex was waiting. The two went to tell the moving company where to sent their things, and finally everything was set.
The next day, Lynda was driving Strip to their house. She had to fight to get him in the passenger seat. Eventually he caved and let her drive.
He looked out the window, recognizing some familiar sights. His old school, the field he used to play in, etc.
"Okay close your eyes." She said as she getting ready to pull up to their house. He listened.
She pulled into the driveway and parked. "Stay in the car."
She walked around and helped him out of the car. "I feel as if I'm being led to my death." He said sarcastically.
"So dramatic." She said as she got him stopped in front of the house.
"Alright! On three open your eyes!" She smiled.
"One! Two! Three! Open!"
He opened his eyes and paused. He looked at her confused. "Why are we at my parent's house?"
She lifted the keys in her hand and showed him. "This is your home now."
Strip looked as if he was going to cry. He just walked towards her and hugged her. She hugged him tight. "Thank you..." he said teary eyed.
The two went inside. He went upstairs and stumbled upon his old room. He stood in the door way and smiled sadly.
He walked on and saw the old yellow wallpaper that he used to hate. The creaky floors that used to irk him, but they now just carry wonderful memories.
Lynda found him standing in there. She came over and wrapped an arm around his waist. "How are you, Rookie?"
He looked at her and sighed a sigh of content. "I'm wonderful, Sunshine."
"I just feel content." He said as he sat on the bay window he used to play cards on with his father and mother.
She sat across from him as he looked out the window. She looked at his hand, looking at his wedding band.
She reached over and carefully held his hand. She gently kissed his ring. He looked at her. "Me too..."
He gently pulled her over towards him and wrapped his arms around her as he looked out the window.
She relaxed against him and closed her eyes. He kissed her cheek as he closed his eyes. "We got this." He said quietly.
"Yes we do. We got this. We're gonna go far." She said as she curled up against him.
He leaned against the wall and rested his eyes. "Yeah we are."
