1990

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Strip Weathers has officially become a five time champion! Isn't this a feat!?" A reporter said on the television.

"Oh it is! Having started in 1970, now 20 years of racing and he is cementing his legacy as The King of NASCAR! He has proved time and time again, he is a force to be reckoned with."

"Oh agreed. Strip Weathers has shown ever since his first championship in 1971 that he intends to show up and show out. Strip honestly will forever be a name that will be remember in the history of NASCAR."

"So whenever you see the Dinoco blue, you know that it is a team of excellence!"

Chick just muted the TV. He rubbed his face and plopped on his bed. "20 years of this shit and I can't even get one championship."

He ended up sitting up as he looked at the TV. He saw Strip with his now 12 year old daughters. They were doing real well in karting.

The tv switched over to Strips interview. He unmuted the TV.

"I feel confident. I know the current record is 6 championships. I believe that I can outdo that record. It was something I never thought I'd be able to consider, but I am now in position where I'm willing to try."

Chick just rolled his eyes as he poured himself a glass of whiskey.

"Do you believe chick hicks will ever get a championship? He currently holds the record of most seconds places."

Chick sipped his whiskey as he listened. He knew strip was surprised by this questioning. "What are you going to say... asshole." Chick says.

"Yes. I do believe he can get one. He has the consistency and the talent to eventually get a championship. Just actually one day he'll beat me and get a piston cup." He said with a smile

"You do believe in him don't you."

"Yes. Yes I do."

Chick threw his glass at his tv. The screen cracked as he stood there. "Liar... don't- just." He just grabbed his pillow and yelled into it.

He was just so angry. He didn't believe a word strip said. He didn't know when he stopped believing him, but now anything Strip made him just become enraged. Especially when it had something to do with him.

"Eventually I'll beat you old man... and it'll be glorious." Chick mumbled.

Strip was doing interview after interview. He hadn't seen his family yet.

Eventually he was set free. He got to the motorhome. He started quiet entering. He saw the girls asleep on the pull out bed in the living room and Tex was asleep in his little designated corner.

Strip pulled his shoes off as he sat down. He unzipped his racing suit when he heard a click. He turned a bit and saw Lynda holding a cake with five candles.

He looked surprised. "Congrats honey." She said in a whisper. He teared up as he smiled a bit. She motioned for him to blow out the candles.

He blew out the candles. She carefully put the cake down and walked over to him. She hugged him tight. He wrapped his arms around her. "I'm so proud of you." She said as she ran her fingers through his hair.

"Thank you, Sunshine." He said as he relaxed into her touch. She loved little moments like this. Just the two of them, at peace, just basking in one another's presence.

"Wanna get some sleep?" She says quietly. He nodded a bit.

"Alright. Come on Cowboy."

Strip woke up the next morning a bit earlier than usual. He felt his wife curled up in front of him. He relaxed as he felt her. He kissed the top of her head as he stayed still in the silence.

He loved mornings like this. Times of peace and relaxation. The mornings where he didn't have to be somewhere right away. The mornings he knew he wasn't going to wake up his wife cause he has to be at an interview.

He couldn't wait to be back home at the ranch, horseback back riding with the family, sitting by the fireplace with his girls, and dancing with Lynda in the kitchen.

He rubbed the back of her neck as he started to fall back asleep. As he was, "I can hear your thoughts."

Lynda said with a soft chuckle. Strip looked at her tiredly. "Can you now?"

"Mmhm. I have been able to for a long time." She said as she opened her eyes. He looked at her a bit.

"Then what am I thinking 'bout now." He said as he kissed her cheek, and then slowly made his way down to her neck.

She tilted her head a bit. "You're thinking about going home... playing with the girls, riding the horses..."

"How do you know that." He said quietly.

"Cause I've been married to you for... 20 years." She said as he pulled from her neck and just hovered over her. He was thinking again.

She looked at him curious as to what he was going to say. "20 years... crazy isn't it." He said with a smile that could just melt the polar ice caps.

"It is."

He just leaned down and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him back. He never thought he'd be able to say he was happily married.

"So, how does it feel?" She asked.

"Does what feel?" He asked as he laid down besides her. He stretched a bit. "Being a five time champion?"

He looked at the ceiling. It didn't fully sink in. "Oh wow you're right." He sat up a bit and saw the piston cup sitting on a side table by the bedroom door.

He thought of when he had gotten his first one. "Time flew didn't it."

"That it did." She Said as she heard the kids walking around. Their door opened a bit. Sarah and Lily rushed in, tackling their parents. "Good morninggg!" They said with laughs.

The parents just laughed. "Morning kiddos."
