Three years later…

"Don't steal all the blanket," I mumbled, half-asleep, shivering as the cold air nipped at my exposed legs.

I reached out, fingers brushing over the fabric, only to find most of it bunched up, wrapped tightly around Ronin’s side of the bed, as usual. With a few determined tugs, I finally pried it loose from his grip, earning nothing more than a deep, unbothered snore from my sleeping boyfriend.

With a satisfied sigh, I curled into him, letting his warmth envelop me. His body heat was intoxicating, a comfort that never faded, no matter how many nights we spent like this.

Just then, the sharp buzz of Ronin's alarm cut through the quiet, a cruel reminder of high school mornings.

He let out a dry cough—typical early-morning dad behavior—before sitting up and rubbing his eyes. With a groggy sigh, he reached for his phone on the bedside table.

“Oh, you’re already awake,” he chuckled, his voice rough with sleep. Leaning down, he pressed a lazy kiss to my lips.

“I’ve been awake for a minute,” I snickered, though he had no idea about the silent war I’d just waged over the blanket.

I blinked against the morning light, my vision still hazy as I sat up. “It’s Saturday, babe. Did you forget to turn off your work alarm?”

He plopped out of bed, stretching his arms above his head, his back muscles flexing in the soft morning light. “C’mon, Liam, how could you forget?” he teased, turning toward me with his hair a mess, his smirk lazy.

I just shrugged, still groggy. No clue what he was on about. Maybe I could blame the late-night gaming.

“We’re meeting with Evelyn, James, and Elliot,” Ronin reminded me, shaking his head with a smile. “It was your idea, by the way.”

Oh. Right.

“Yeah, I remember now,” I muttered, feeling my cheeks heat up as I rubbed the back of my neck.

Without thinking, I jumped out of bed and wrapped my arms around him from behind, squeezing him tight.

He let out a deep chuckle, his dimples showing as he tilted his head back slightly. “They can wait another twenty minutes.”

“I like the sound of that,” Ronin snickered, turning in my arms to pull me closer.

I lived for moments like this. Right now, I was on break from university, while Ronin had taken a job to help my parents pay for my studies. It wasn’t necessary, but that stubborn boy insisted. He even got us an apartment, not big, but cozy and charming.

James was also in university, Evelyn worked as an assistant for a big-time artist, and Elliot? He was playing for an up-and-coming football team. Right now, they were my favorites to watch.

And today, we were all supposed to meet up. Eventually.

 Eventually
