"What, no you can't Mama!" Blue yelled as she sobbed into Solina's chest. "I have to Blue, I don't want to go either" she told her as she held her just as tight against her chest. They have been in this position for almost twenty minutes after Solina got her news.
I've been called to go in
Those six words just ranged in my head. I didn't know what to feel right now. I felt frozen, like time just froze. My family had left maybe ten minutes ago after hugging me tightly when they saw how statued I was. Mama held me in her arms and told me everything would be okay and that Solina was strong. That went in one ear and out the other.
"Houston" Solina said to me. I didn't even realize that tears were rolling down my face. I heard her sigh and pull me closer to her by my waist. Only then, I finally felt myself break down into her embrace. "Stop crying y'all, I'll be okay" she tried to reassure Blue and I and kissed my head. I shook my head and gripped her sweater, "you don't know that" I said.
I held my body so close with Solina because I was so afraid she'd just slip away. "Go ahead and get ready for bed bug. Let me talk to your mom, okay?" She told Blue. Blue looked up from Lina's chest, "Kay" she said. She moved over to hug me before hugging Lina tightly. "I'll come see you in a bit, okay?" Lina told the girl who wiped her tears and nodded.
When we heard Blue go upstairs, Lina pulled me into her lap and held me close.
My body began to shake as I cried much harder than earlier now that we were alone. I felt her hands rubbing on my back. "Please tell me you aren't going" I told her when I calmed down a little bit. She raised my face in her hands and wiped my cheeks with the pads of her thumbs.
"I wish I was lying Houston, but I'm not. I don't want to go either—I'm still an active soldier and I have no choice" she told me as she kissed my cheeks. "When do you go?" I whispered. "Monday. I have to be at the base at 4 in the morning" she told me. She brought my face closer to hers and pecked my lips a few times before holding me closer.
"Promise me" Lina told me. "What?" I asked. "Promise me you'll be here when I get home?" She asked me. I hummed, "of course we'll be here Lina" I told her. We stayed in this position. Me firmly on her lap with her holding me close. We stayed like this for I don't know how long to the point that I fell asleep in her embrace.
When I woke up, I was laying in Lina's bed with Blue sleeping on my boobs. I turned my head a bit to see Solina sitting on the edge of the bed in a wife beater with her head holding one hand and her phone in the other.
"You think I don't know that? It caught me off guard. Everything was calm before we left and now we are going back. Toby's scared shitless because he doesn't know what's going on. I've been keeping my composure for damn near five hours because I know Blue is scared, Bey is, and you two" She said. I could tell she was talking to Coco and Chance.
"Yeah, okay. I'll see you then" Lina said before she hung up the phone and tossed it on the bed. I softly moved Blue so that she was lying on the pillow before sliding from the bed. I moved towards the bathroom to empty my bladder and when I was done, I washed my hands before leaving.
I came out to see Solina brushing her finger along a sleeping Blue's cheek.
"She'll be okay right?" Lina asked, not taking her eyes off of our child. I twisted my lips and walked closer to her to sit on the bed. "She will be. After a few days she will be. She's just gonna need some time to adjust with you being gone and all but she'll be okay" I reassured her. She looked up from Blue to lock eyes with me. "Will you be okay?" She asked me. I shrugged, "I'll try to be. I have to for her" I told Lina.
She sighed, "I'm sorry" she told me. I furrowed my eyebrows, "for what?" I asked her. "Doing this—I've only had my sisters really awaiting my arrival and afraid for my departure but now I have Blue who's gonna be scared out of her mind and now I'm gonna miss yet another milestone with possibly not being home for her birthday" she told me. I sighed myself and moved to hold her head in my arms, "it's okay, Lina. She'll understand, we just have to get use to your job baby" I told her.
I didn't even realize I called her baby until I saw her eyes go wide. I tried to show her I wasn't thinking about it and that me calling her that didn't affect me nor her.
"Promise me you'll make it back to us?" I asked her when my hand moved over to take hers into mine. She nodded and squeezed our hands, "I promise" she told me strongly. She pulled me into her and my body settled on top of her as we laid next to Blue.
Her head was in my neck with her arms strongly around my waist. I could feel the tiny kisses she was placing began to lull me to sleep. I looked up causing her to do the same. She leaned down and kissed me softly with her hand going to my chin and mine being placed on her chest so I could sit up a bit all while keeping our lips together.
"Mmmm" I moaned quietly when I opened my mouth to let our tongues dance. She already had established her dominance the second we began to kiss and I wasn't complaining. It felt refreshing to let someone take the lead. I don't even think she noticed she had already dominated me—I'm pretty sure it came as a second nature to her with being a sergeant and all.
She was the first to pull away from the kiss. Our foreheads were connected as we regulated our breathing.
"I like kissing you" Lina said in an almost breathy tone. I chuckled, my hands moving to play with her tags, "I like kissing you too, Lina" I told her in the same tone. "I actually like all of you—kissing isn't the only thing I like" she told me and I smiled. "I want to take you out when I come back. I want it to be perfect so I'll take however long I'm away to plan out the best date for you, okay?" She told me.
My eyes stayed glued to her tags as I digested her words.
"Okay" I told her after being silent for a minute. "Okay?" She asked and I nodded, finally tearing my eyes from the tags to lock with hers. "You plan the date and I'll get Blue to help find my dress, don't make me get pretty for nothing" I told her softly with a hint of playfulness in my voice.
She kissed my head and then my cheek before pulling the covers over us and sliding one of her arms off of me to pull Blue closer to us.
"Don't worry Houston, imma make the best date for you ever when I get home. You deserve it"
