Chapter 6

It was the morning after the ball. Athena had awoken before anyone else, or so she thought.

"As I thought" she heard her father whispered to who Athena thought was a witch; though couldn't see his face "the quarter is full of vampires"

Athena stepped forward so she could hear better and see the witches face and see who aligned with her father. But she couldn't see without getting caught.

"What do you suppose we do about it?" The man replied. He was very familiar; his voice sounded almost like her father's.

"We're going to burn New Orleans to the ground, including those bastard Originals, and then we will build it back up in our image once more" he informed him

Athena jumped back as Demetrius' eyes scanned the room. She bit her lip to quieten her breaths. Her head leant against the wall and she closed her eyes. She hadn't been caught. But she wasn't going to stick around long enough and wait for it, she already had enough information.

Apollo. The first thing she needed to do was get Apollo. And then Arcadius, two of them together could incapacitate their father, three of them together could do much worse.

"Apollo" Athena whispered, descending down the spiral staircase and into the basement "Apollo are you there?"

"Athena?" Apollo whispered in return. He lay by the criss cross bars, his skin pale and hair shaggy. "Athena is that you? You shouldn't be down here"

"We need to go now, we'll get Arcadius and we shall leave" Athena said in a hurry, trying to find the key around the room

"What? What is the matter?" Apollo pulled himself on his feet and scanned the room "father will kill you"

"He will kill New Orleans if we don't stop him" Athena shuffled through papers and through desk drawers

"What are you talking about?"

"Father wants to burn our home to the ground, to rid us of vampires" Athena whispered urgently "we spent years building this and now he wants to tear it down, I shall not let him do that"

"How can he do that to our own home?" Apollo asked hurt

"I don't know but he is" Athena couldn't find the key "damn" she cursed

"What are we going to do?" Apollo tried to break through the bars

"You're not going to break them like that" Athena rutted, she ran over and wrapped her small hand around one of the bars "I can try"

Athena began chanting quietly but she was cut off by loud footsteps stamping down the stairs.

"Oh no" she changed faster but it was no use

"Athena, what are you doing down here?" Her father spat venom, more than usual

"I'm just talking to Apollo" she lied in fear "what're you doing down here?"

Demetrius passed Athena and snapped the door open. Dragging Apollo out by his collar

"I'm actually glad you're in here Athena" he informed her. Athena's eyes flicked to Apollo and back to her father "I want you to know that this was the little rat that convinced you that your mother died by other hands, he is the one that killed your mother"

"I'm sorry Athena, I couldn't tell you the truth" Apollo lied

Athena looked at him 'what?' She sent him a mental note

'If he knows you know he will kill you, I'm already a dead man walking'

Athena's gaze cut off by Apollo being thrown half way across the room. "Who told you that? How can you be so sure that they aren't lying"

"I promised I'd keep his identity safe, I know whoever told me isn't lying" Demetrius said vaguely.

Before Athena could run up to her brother, Demetrius got there first. "A life for a life"

"Father no, we can work it out" Athena outstretched her hand and tried to burn her father's hand, but he was just as strong and she was just as predictable as she used to be.

Apollo's eyes widened and they started to bleed. "Go upstairs Athena" Demetrius demanded

"No" she refused

"Go" he shot her a look and she quickly turned to leave. The last thing she saw of her brother was blood dripping from his eyes and him wishing to just die.

Athena reached her room. The amount of screaming from the basement told her that Apollo was dead. A feeling of despair overwhelmed her which infuriated her at the same time.

How dare her father take her brother and now try to take her home away from her.

But obviously she couldn't take him down alone. And she couldn't ask Arcadius and risk putting him in to danger.

But one particular person came into mind, she grabbed her coat and slid through the window and down the ivy.

"I have looked and nothing anywhere says anything about killing them" Elijah slammed books in front of Niklaus "I suppose your drinking is just contributing to our situation"

"I can't look when I'm stressed and drinking relieves me" he retorted

Elijah shook his head in disbelief "you are something else, Niklaus" he said

"I am indeed" he agreed and then the room went quiet. "How else can we kill an immortal witch?"

The echoing sounds of unfamiliar feet came to Elijah's and Niklaus' ears.

"You can't" Athena stood tall in the gate way, her arms crossed and her expression unreadable. "I can"

The room was very quiet after that. Until, of course, Niklaus started to chuckle loudly.

"What?" He asked, still laughing

Elijah stared at Athena. He thought he could see some red in her eyes from crying, but he chose to ignore it.

"I need your help just as much as you need my help" she looked from Klaus to Elijah "my father wants to burn the city to the ground and you along with it; though I'm a fan of getting rid of you, I don't want my city to die and I can't do it alone"

"What about your brothers then?" Klaus asked "I'm sure they will help you"

Athena gulped. She turned away for a moment to re compose herself and then turned back around "they can't"

"Why not?" Klaus asked. Elijah stepped forwards because now he knew that she had been crying.

"One is dead and I'm not to keen about putting the other one at risk" she finally admitted

"I apologise" Elijah piped up "losing a loved one isn't favourable"

"I know; it hurts like hell" her voice cracked but she remained sharp and snappy "that's why I need your help"

"I need to kill my father"
