Chapter 22

Athena and Elijah lay intertwined in one small mess of of covers.

"Hey" Athena looked up at him as she woke up, her eyes flickered "it's morning already?"

"Did you sleep well then?" He asked, Athena lifted herself up and sat against the head board

"Yeah" she said Shyly, pulling the covers up to cover her chest "why did you show me that?"

"Which part?" Elijah looked at him "if you're talking about the first part, with your family, I told you I had no control over that" he explained

"I know, but the other part" she said, interrupting him "why did you show me the time when you were human?"

"It helps me to show you how much I trust you. I have seen your past, so I wanted to let you in, I wanted to show you that I can trust you with my secrets" he explained

"You had an awful last few days of mortality" she said "but there's no secrets I can see"

"We were the same" Elijah began, shuffling around and putting his arm around her as she listened eagerly "we had happy lives, innocent, we had our family and our friends, until something awful happened which forced someone's hand" he explained "I've gone through my darker moments, and so have you; the first woman I ever loved died by my own hands"

Athena looked at him sympathetically "I don't really know what to say" she said. She felt a stinging in her leg which she just brushed off probably a side effect of turning human

"You don't have to say anything" he said "Everyone lives believing I'm the noble one when I have hidden this for centuries. I believe you have lived under the facade that you're..."

"Sneaky? Manipulative? Bitchy?" She interrupted

"The relentless one, maybe we have all thought that. You have never let anyone close enough to see it; but I have seen the real you, you are still that girl we saw in those dreams, only... More experienced. The world is a dangerous place and it changes us for worse or for better"

"But I'm human now" she said "do you think that's going to change me?"

"It'll only help you learn that you can trust others" he replied "you need to depend on me if you want to get out of this"

Athena kicked her legs of the bed and threw the covers to the side, showing Elijah her bare back.

"Elijah" she said, very scared

Elijah jolted up at her call, he had just finished sliding his trousers on. "Are you okay?" He walked over to her side of the bed.

Her trembling hand hovered over her thigh, where the word 'traitor' carved into her flesh.

"Who has done this?" He asked

"If I knew then I wouldn't be sat here" she said, poking at it and then recoiling "it's real"

"Okay take this" he bit his wrist and then gave it to Athena who pushed it away

"I wanna keep it" she said "I don't know why but it'll heal on its own and it'll give me some motivation"

"It's painful though" Elijah said

"I have some herbs I can mix at home, it'll numb the pain" she said "I just need to get there"

"Well you can stay here and I'll get whatever you need" Elijah said, not wanting Athena to get into more trouble than she already has done.

Athena slid her jeans on carefully, taking a sharp breath in when they made contact with the wound. "You don't know where they are" she stood up

"I will find them" Elijah sat her back down on the bed gently.

Athena looked down "I'm going" she said going to clutch her necklace but couldn't find it. "Elijah did you take my necklace?" She asked panicked

"No" Elijah knelt down and looked at her neck, no chain.

"He took it" she gulped "he really took it" she looked up at Elijah with worry filling her eyes every second "I have dark objects, they won't kill him but they'll help, especially when I don't have magic anymore, I just need to get to the house"

Elijah nodded. "Fine but I'm coming with you" he demanded. Athena went to protest but quickly settled down

"We need to get him out then" she said "we have to do it tonight. He knows where I am, he's not going to faulter if he wants to kill me"

"Then why didn't he just do it?" Elijah asked throwing his suit jacket on

"Where are you going?" She asked, Elijah stretched his hand to her

"We're going to talk to Klaus and Marcel, if we need to go in the house, we would need distractions" he said.

"Why would you bring vermin to us?" Klaus spat in disgust when Athena walked in behind Elijah.

Elijah stood in front of her for protection, in case Klaus or Marcel starts anything. "Hear us out" Elijah interrupted

Athena peered out behind Elijah at the two vampires whom looked more intimidating than usual.

"Why should we? She can't be trusted" Marcel added

"I can" she said "I can be trusted because I have nothing else to lose"

She walked past Elijah to tried to grab her but he was too late. She took a small knife and slit her arm open.

"I have no magic. I have no immortality, do with me what you will but I'm your only hope of killing my brother" she said

The blood made Elijah's fangs extend, it smelt so sweet and enticing that he had to restrain himself.

Klaus stood up, raising one eyebrow to show how interested he was . "Another family member? Well, you aren't as family orientated as we thought" Klaus joked

"He has my power, my fathers and my other brothers power" she said "if you kill me, then New Orleans will surely be overtook by him and he will surely kill you" she said

"And we have a plan" Elijah commented

"You need to distract Arcadius, whilst me and Elijah grab some things from my home" Athena said "but it has to be tonight or I'm a goner"

"How on earth are we supposed to do that?" Marcel asked "I'm not going anywhere near a witch that powerful"

"There's only one thing us Drakovs would never be able to resist when we were in power, offer him a deal. If he does something for you then you'll leave town" she suggested

"There is no way I am going to bargain our city" Klaus piped up

"He'll be dead before you know it, it's an empty promise" Athena snapped "Me and Elijah have work to do"
