"I can do this by myself" she snapped, taking deep breaths in and out. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean that"

"It's okay" Elijah smiled sympathetically at her, she was obviously struggling and she didn't want to admit it.

Athena walked out of the compound and on to the streets of New Orleans. A mixture of scents hit her, mostly the different types of bloods. Type A, B, everything you can think of; it made her take a deep breath in.

Athena swallowed. Knowing she had Elijah to her right, watching her every move, feeling her aura.

"I'm doing fine" she pepper talked herself. It had been three weeks since she had woken back up.

It had taken her three weeks to take this large step. Even under supervision, she was so proud of herself.

Athena gulped. She had just passed a young child who had splintered herself, the blood was little, but it was still blood. She growled slightly but Elijah grabbed her hand just in time, before her fangs grew out.

"Thanks" she whispered, she never liked feeling this useless, she never liked feeling like she was the risk, she was a burden on everyone else.

"Are you hungry?" Elijah asked, knowing the answer, but it was only out of courtesy he asked.

"Yeah" she said, sounding ashamed of herself

"You know what to do" Elijah let her free in the crowd, proving to her that she is capable of being a vampire, she's capable of feeding without killing.

Athena walked into the crowd and targeted a young woman, she had blue eyes and long brown hair. She reminded Athena an awful lot like herself when she was human.

"Hi there" she walked up to her and smiled "do you mind following me?" She compelled

The woman nodded. In a trance. Athena lead her in to the darkened alley way that she had always fed in.

"Don't scream don't move" she glanced at Elijah for approval "this will only hurt a little"

Athena watched as the girl's eyes widened at the sight of her sharpened fangs. But she didn't give herself time to think, she instantly latched on to her neck.

Athena felt the immediate exhilaration of the warm blood trickling down her throat, she also felt some just smudge around her mouth.

Stop. She thought to herself, why wasn't she stopping? The girl in her hands had begun to grow cold and weak, and she could sense Elijah ready to pounce.

She can't feel that embarrassment again. She knew that Elijah would wait to the last minute, but she didn't want to be that person who needs to be pryed away from another person.

She let go. Athena's fingers loosened their grip and let the girl stop to the floor. She was barely conscious, but she was alive.

"I'm sorry" Athena apologised, she was out of breath and she used the side of her hand to wipe away the excess blood.

She bent down, trying not to breathe through her nose. "You don't remember any of this" she said, biting her wrist and forcing it into the girls mouth "now go"

The girl stumbled up, as if she was in a daze and then she walked away. It was as simple as that.

"Life is so fragile" she commented as the woman disappeared into the crowd. Elijah returned to his normal spot beside her and wiped away some blood with his fingers.

"It is" he agreed, giving her a half smile "but ours? Not so much"

Athena smiled in return at him. Taking his hand and intertwining her fingers with him.

Look at the two broken people, both monsters, with demons larger than themselves. Look how they feed of the innocent, look at how no matter how hard they try, they still can never deny their true nature.

But also. Look at the couple, look at how strong they are together, how they feed of each others essence and use it to their advantage. Look at how perfect they are together.

Elijah was determined, he was determined to make Athena feel comfortable in her own skin. It was going to take a lot of work, but he knew he was making progress.

But when Athena looks at Elijah, all of her troubles go away. Because no matter how awful she feels, how guilty she feels for feeding on innocent people, she knows that some time in her life, she had done something so good she had deserved Elijah.

She gave him a kiss on the cheek.

It was going to be one hell of a ride from here on out.

But she was ready. They both were ready. For no matter what enemies come their way, whether it be themselves or someone else, as long as they had each other, they will be stronger.

They will be legendary.
