A parade. Elijah swore he had seen flyers being thrown around in these past few days, but his mind hadn't really been straight. The feel of Athena's touch, although aggressive, lingered on his neck and shoulders and wherever else she had made contact.

It was a jazz festival, he recalled, that's why the music was louder than usual and the people were dancing like nobody watched them. But Elijah was.

He normally admired the sound of the trumped in accordance with the other instruments, making a perfect mess of whatever song they decided to adapt.

Elijah listened closely and he swore it was one of the many infamous songs played by Louis Armstrong. But he could be wrong, his thoughts were laid elsewhere.

That familiar shadow perked her head from one of the back alleys and disappeared into the crowd only to come out the other side and duck back into the other alley.

Elijah kept to the shadows. He knew Athena and he knew how she would proudly stride through the middle, not caring who she split apart. But was she cowering?

Elijah walked closer to the alley where she walked into, multiple trips down here had taught Elijah that she was in a dead end.

He caught her mutter curse words to herself as she paced near the wall.

She froze at the sight of Elijah, blocking the only exit she had. Her head spin around and observed for any other exits, maybe she could scale that wall? But what she couldn't do was blast him with whatever power she had. Because she didn't have any.

"What do you want?" She stuttered, trying to conceal fear but it weaved itself in her words, making it more visible than ever.

Elijah stepped closer to her, every sudden move he made, made her viciously flinch as if he were about to hurt her.

Athena's hair looked as if it were slightly back combed, not brushed in a few days and black rings clung onto the bottom of her eyelids.

"Um" Elijah couldn't speak, she looked like a cowering animal, a mouse, so much so he felt sympathy for her. "You seem different?" He said

"What, different as in not trying to cripple you with pain?" She turned around, trembling but pawing at the wall with hopes of finding anything.

"Different as in scared" Elijah rested his hand on her shoulder, causing her to yelp and jump back around "what has scared you so much?"

"Why should I tell you? You'd probably just use it against me" she hissed.

Even when she was throwing snide comments at him, her voice sounded shaky and her aura was completely different.

Elijah grasped her wrist, she tried to struggle out of it but she wasn't strong enough.

"Why aren't you using your magic?" He asked, statins stationary despite the amount Athena was wriggling

"I don't want to" she lied, her voice turning into a sort of grunt

"Use it"

"No" she almost cried and then she heard her wrist snap.

"Agh" she doubled over in pain, holding her wrist which was flipped at An unnatural angle "why?" She seethed through her teeth as she looked up at him.

"Why aren't you healing?" He asked as he held her wrist close to him, watching as it stayed still

"I cant" she shouted and then shut her mouth, she didn't want to explain.

Elijah released her wrist and allowed her to hold it close to her chest carefully, without hurting it.

"why?" Elijah felt a strike of guilt, he wouldn't have done it if he knew she would completely feel the pain and it wouldn't heal.

"Why did you do that?" She asked, her voice cracking

Elijah felt like hugging her, it looks like things weren't going her way, something had happened and now he had just worsened it.

"I- I thought you'd heal" Elijah told the truth, he didn't know why he actually did it, maybe to get some answers or at least a reaction from her.

"Well you were mistaken" she said sarcastically "I need to get out of here" she looked ahead, behind Elijah and went to walk away but she was immediately blocked

"Tell me" he demanded, taking a long shot, but looking into her eyes and attempting to compel

"Arcadius took my magic and he took my immortality, I can't heal and I can't defend myself, I'm trying to get out of town before anyone else finds out and kills me" she spilt

Elijah was taken aback, that was why she was looking so awful and that was why she was so terrified when he came around the corner.

Elijah nipped at his wrist, drawing a small amount of blood and out stretching it to her. She looked at him in complete shock and terror, fear of the unknown was something she was always frightened of, oblivion.

"Take it" he urged

"How do I know you're not just going to snap my neck afterwards and send me into a world full of torture, pain and bloodlust" she held her wrist close to her chest still

By that time his wrist had healed and he had to nip at it again "you're paranoid"

"Maybe I don't trust easily, the last time I did I literally got killed" she shrugged

"I give you my word, I won't hurt you" Elijah dropped his wrist "and when you've taken this blood, I'd very much like the chance to explain it to you"

"I'm only going to take the blood to get rid of this pain in my wrist, and then I'm out of here, I don't want to hear any excuses... Nothing"

Elijah again, bit into his wrist. This time Athena wrapped her lips around the wound and began to drink.

"That's a relief" she said, wiggling her wrist around again and pushing herself up "see you around"

"What if I said I could help you get everything back?" Elijah called after her, making her stop and turn around "you don't have to run"

"Do you think I have a choice? Do you really think I want to run? I have enemies Elijah and they're all here, I'm not wasting my time with your lies" she replied

"You know what kills him right?"

She nodded her head. "But that means getting the object, killing another member of my family leaving me left" she moaned "I'm far too vulnerable"

Elijah outstretched his arms as if to volunteer himself

"You killed me" she exclaimed "and I'm sure your brother wouldn't be too pleased"

"Getting rid of another Drakov? He'd be ecstatic" Elijah commented

"Yeah but I'm the target here, my neck can be snapped" she retorted

"You are no longer a threat" he explained "he doesn't have to know that you'll get your magic back"

"I don't know" Athena shrugged "last time I trusted you..."

"... I stabbed you, but I truly regret it. Just come with me and let me explain" he pleaded

Athena nodded her head, checking her wrist and then motioning for Elijah to come by the side of her. "I need protection" she said
