Elijah jumped down the stairs and fully faced Niklaus "that was a very heart warming chat Elijah" Klaus grinned, very happy with himself
"Hasn't mother told you it's rude to eavesdrop?" Elijah tilted his head and squinted his eyes at Niklaus
"No, but she has told me that seeking the annihilation of our family is okay, so forgive me if I don't take mother's word as gospel" Klaus snapped back
Elijah huffed in annoyance. His brother always knew how to get on his last nerve.
"Let me guess" Klaus spoke as Elijah went to speak "you want to convince me that killing your little girlfriend up there" he pointed to the room
"I think it would be advisory not to, she is our alliance, a powerful one" Elijah reasoned
"Really? Because what I recall, brother the deal was to kill her father and then go back to 'fighting like cats and dog'" Klaus quoted
"things change" Elijah said
"Yes, that is what you told our witch friend up there, but we are still plotting to kill her" Klaus chuckled "do you realise Elijah that once her father is dead, she still has her brother and she is a family orientated after all, she's not going to drop him for us and he definitely is not going to align with us"
Klaus had a point. He had a very good point indeed.
"Maybe she is just trying to distract you like you are trying to distract her" Klaus finished
"It began as a distraction but I'm afraid I have contracted feelings for her" Elijah felt ashamed and proud to say it
"Maybe that's what she wants, to give you a weakness and then strike you down in the prime" Klaus' paranoia seemed contagious.
Elijah looked at the floor. Was he really so stupid to believe her?
It took Elijah a while to think. But Klaus stood in front of him ready to knock down any feelings towards Athena.
"Are we still on?" Klaus asked "but carry on the way you are, don't want her believing something is wrong"
"She plans on killing him tomorrow" Elijah sighed "plan is still on"
Klaus threw the dagger at Elijah who caught it and immediately hid it behind his jacket. "So I know you aren't lying to me, you're going to kill her"
Elijah's gasp caught in his throat as he glared at Klaus in surprise and in hatred. "You wouldn't"
"I would" Klaus smirked "you have the dagger now so I'd keep it safe"
Elijah didn't have time to give Klaus the dagger back, Athena had walked through the door and was now making her way downstairs.
"My father is coming here tomorrow" she held her phone up before slipping it away. "We can kill him then"
"Perfect" Klaus dimples made an appearance as he pressed his lips together in a smug smile "now talk us through what is going to happen"
"Well, it's simple, he walks in, I grab him and began my witchy business. You just wait around in case he's brought anyone with him and you have to protect me when I'm vulnerable" Athena summarised "that's it, that's all you have to do, I have the hard work"
"That's good because I really can't be doing with too much work" Klaus commented "but until then we have nothing to do"
There was nothing to do. Elijah couldn't really spend too much time near Athena out of fear that he would tell her their entire plan. But he couldn't just blatantly ignore her, she will know something is wrong.
"You're bleeding" Klaus pointed to her nose which dropped with deep red blood. He wasn't caring; just his usual self, curious why she was bleeding.
Athena wiped her nose. "It's fine" but she had been bleeding an awful lot lately, it came to Elijah's attention
"Are you sure?" Elijah spun around and looked at her red nose.
"I'm fine" she raised her voice in annoyance "why do you keep asking me if I'm okay, I'm fine"
The room went silent. Athena wasn't fine, she was far from it. Visions kept hitting her of her death, not by her father's hands but by Elijah's.
It shouldn't hurt her as much as it did. Somehow; the original vampire had weaved his way around her and had no gotten under her skin. The way he held her, the way he kissed her made her melt, it gave her a weakness and she knew it.
Most of all, she believed her father knew it, so he concocts spells to get into her head and put doubts in her mind. And it was working.
Elijah stepped back and raised his hands in surrender.
This doesn't happen often. But it does happen. Athena lifted her hand to her head, a thudding feeling spread all the way through it. "I'm fine" she babbled and repeated "I'm really fine" as her body swayed and her vision began to blur.
"Athena" Elijah tried to snap her out of whatever trance she was in. He grabbed her harshly by the shoulders, but released a bit when Klaus looked at him weirdly.
Elijah shook. He didn't want Niklaus to think he cared too much, but he was worried.
Athena collapsed.
Elijah caught her when she neared the ground and lifted her up. Her legs dangling down and the bleeding finally stopped.
"What is wrong?" Elijah looked down at her and then back up to Niklaus "you haven't done anything have you?"
"I haven't" Klaus said "but you might have"
"What are you saying?" Elijah knitted his eyebrows together and asked his brother why Elijah was being accused.
"I'm just saying that it could have something to do with that gold dagger in your pocket, the one that can kill a certain witch" Klaus pointed to Elijah's chest and he looked down quickly
"Of course" Elijah exhaled. "I'll take her upstairs and hide the dagger"
"Remember Elijah" Klaus shouted after him as he reached the steps "that witch better have a dagger in her, put there by you or else I'll have to do it and you will be daggered. We don't want both of you to suffer do we"
Elijah gritted his teeth "of course not, brother" he pushed through.
Athena's head moved with Elijah until her cheek rested against his chest.
He lay her down on the bed, gently. She looked at peace when she slept, maybe she will be at peace when she dies. It would make Elijah's job a lot easier and would give him piece of mind.
He took a handkerchief out of his pocket and wiped her face clean of blood.
Maybe he would sit with her for a while, until she woke up so she wouldn't feel too uncomfortable.
Klaus could wait.
