"Find out anything good?" Klaus' taunting voice cut Elijah off in his thoughts as he stepped through the compound gates.
He didn't know what to say. Should he tell Klaus that the girl has a weakness, something that could link to her death, or should he protect her, maybe just for now to get her help for killing Demetrius. And then pounce.
"She has a weakness" Elijah blurted out after all the thinking. His brain told him not to; but his mouth made the decision faster.
Klaus raised his eyebrows. "A weakness?" He was fiddling with a piece of paper, Elijah was curious to what it was; but it could wait.
"Someone called Cyrus" Elijah tried to add as much detail as he could. He told Niklaus about her letting him in, and hesitating to tell him or not. "She was in love with him but I don't know the rest"
"It looks like she is almost on the verge of trusting you" Klaus smirked "she is making a very big mistake, but it falls in our favour"
He slammed the note on the table and Elijah picked it up and unfolded it immediately "I, too have found development in our case that leads in our favour"
Mikaelson family;
The Drakov Manor, Athena's bedroom (1st floor; second door on the right)
Under the middle floor board, you will find what you are looking for."Who is this from?" Elijah gulped
"I assume it is what we need to kill the girl" Klaus was triumphant "and now that you have her trust; you can be used as a distraction whilst I and Marcel look"
"What if anybody else is in the house, we can't risk it" Elijah made excuses, he didn't want to find the weapon. Not just yet anyway.
"You won't be risking anything" Klaus replied "it'll be me and Marcel; but we're sneaky, we will wait for them to go out and Marcel will look out"
They had already set the plan up. Elijah couldn't disagree now. "How do you suppose I distract her?" He asked unimpressed
"Text her, tell her you want to see if she is okay after what you saw; or you want to talk about it; or practically everything else that gets her out of the house. Remember Elijah, underneath the 2000 year old veneer; she is still a girl" Klaus hinted that she can be woo'd and Elijah had the capabilities of doing it "oh come on; you're never a stranger to a pretty face" he winked
Elijah huffed and slipped the number out of his pocket and started putting it into his phone.
'Athena; I know this isn't an emergency, but I needed to know if you are okay, please meet me tonight and we can talk about it, or talk about whatever you like
- Elijah ' he quickly typed inAthena's phone buzzed. Her eyes scanned over the text on her phone and a smile couldn't help but make an appearance, but it was instantly wiped off. Was he actually making sure she was okay? Athena held the phone in her hand and thought about it for a while. Maybe it would do her good to get out, even it it was with a vampire.
'Okay; meet me at 8.00pm in cafe du monde' she replied almost instantly
Klaus chuckled at how fast the reply came. "Looks like Elijah's got an admirer, so she does have a soul"
Elijah quickly confirmed the location and time before putting his phone away "she'll be out at 8, please try your best not to mess this up" he looked specifically at his brother but quickly glanced at Marcel too
Klaus nodded at Marcel. "Looks like you've got to get ready for your date, Elijah" Klaus joked
Elijah huffed quietly "it's not a date" rolling his eyes, he ascended up the stairs.
-
Athena was a tad late. She ran into the cafe and closed the door slowly. Exhaling in relief; she made it in time.
Elijah raised his hand half heartedly to motion her over to the table. Athena tucked some hair behind her ear and the sat down in the booth.
There Elijah had already ordered 2 coffee's, which he pushed one over to her.
"Hey" she said shyly
"Hi" he smiled to her
There was an awkward silence for a moment. Athena not knowing what to say and Elijah thinking about what Niklaus would be doing right now. If Athena knew what they planned, Elijah would be dead on the spot.
"I think" Athena coughed and broke the silence "maybe it's time to tell someone about what happened" she tried to reason with herself. Should she or shouldn't she. "And I'm only telling you this because, as you said, one of us is going to end up killing the other, you are noble and I can't really confide in anyone else"
Elijah's ears perked up and he looked at her. "You can tell me" he tries to comfort her but push the information out of her at the same time.
"I wasn't always like this" she gulped "I used to be kind, innocent, everything good about being a human, I was engaged"
She was engaged. Elijah linked it to the man he saw in her mind, Cyrus.
"And we were so happy" tears threatened in her eyes and Elijah's hand made its way to hers to console her.
Athena's hand flinched but then relaxed. Nobody has ever really wanted to go near her, never mind actually make contact.
"It was the day of my wedding, my fiancé Cyrus didn't show up; so I did what anyone would do, I went and looked for him" Athena began again after choking down sobs "that was a mistake because I found him before my father found me; he had been murdered; by my father to make the elixir needed to keep us immortal"
"I couldn't live without him so I took the dagger and I almost killed myself, but my father intervened, and told me to take the elixir, which I did. It was only when I awoke 5 centuries later did I realise what the elixir did and what Cyrus did" she spoke with so much emotion that Elijah just wanted to hug her until she was happy again "he didn't love me; he loved another girl called Bryony, everybody knew and everybody knew he was only using me for my power. So I adjusted myself; I didn't trust, I only relied on family and if anyone touched them I would be relentless, I would kill them" she spat
"And when my father killed my brother, I couldn't just look past that, Apollo was the most innocent out of us all, he didn't know what he was doing, he could barely use magic in the beginning" she began to babble to herself, and confused Elijah immensely
He tilted his head "what did he do?" Elijah asked
"He killed my mother" Athena took Elijah's hand and then showed him everything. The wedding, the deaths, everything that she had witnessed, hat had been stewing in her mind, giving her nightmares.
Elijah jumped back. It was powerful.
"I need you to promise me you won't tell any other person" she sounded urgent now
"I won't tell any living soul" Elijah agreed "I give my word"
Athena relaxed now, taking a sip of her coffee and drying away any tears that had escaped.
Elijah felt awful. He didn't lie though. He wouldn't break his word to her.
Niklaus wasn't exactly counted as a living soul.
