The night fell quickly. Niklaus, though very reluctant finally took his step and reached out to the witch in question, asking for a meeting in a public place, to stop any sort of conspiracies against him.
Athena stood around the corner, peering out from behind the wall with Elijah close by her side. Like a good lap dog, loyal and always watching her.
"He's just gone out" she said, glancing back and jumping into hiding so nobody caught sight of her. "We'll leave it for a few minutes and then go"
She turned around to only be greeted with Elijah's lips. Somehow he couldn't get used to the feeling of spontaneously kissing someone and them actually kissing him back. He had spent too much time alone. "What was that for?" She smiled as they broke off
"I just felt like it" he said, glancing around the corner for himself "I believe he is gone, let's go"
Athena's small legs couldn't keep up with Elijah's fast stride, so she ended up jogging after him, constantly looking back on the empty street to see for anything unusual.
"Key" Athena held up as they came to the front door. She clutched it tightly as she put it in and twisted it around, the sound of unlatching was music to Elijah's ears.
And the door opened.
"Don't turn the lights on" she said "you have your eyesight and I have my phone torch" she took her phone out and turned the torch on.
"Right, you take downstairs; the kitchen cupboard top right you'll find a pocket watch and some shackles, and then underneath the large floorboard under the living room rug will be a small vile of red liquid" she said "I'll take upstairs, I'll get some more dark objects, my herbs, some clothes and I'll see if I can find the necklace"
"Can't we go together" Elijah worried "I don't want you out of my sight when you're this vulnerable"
"We want quickness don't we? Don't worry this is my house, I know the best hiding spots and you can always speed out" she said, pointing to the kitchen for Elijah "you know where to find me"
She turned around and hooped up the stairs. It was good to be home but my under these circumstances.
She opened the door to her bedroom to see everything smashed up, her lamps her jewellery boxes all on the floor and all broken.
She knelt down beside a pile of mess and sorted through it to find nothing but useless junk, things she hadn't used in centuries.
"Okay" she breathed and sorted through her closet to find some shirts, jeans and dresses, she couldn't carry much so she only took a few things. She then turned to her drawers.
Both hands clutched on the handles as she pulled it open, underneath the clothing she found a small vile of green powder which she could mix with some silver to numb the pain on her leg.
She slipped it into her pocket and lifted from the ground her old necklace, which was also a dark object. She quickly tied it around her neck and walked out of her room to Arcadius'.
The light emigrating from around the corner caught her eye and made her gasp. Was he home already?
Athena followed her nose around the corner where she saw someone rather surprising.
"Apollo?" She asked when she laid eyes on his physique
He didn't say anything, only motioned for her to follow him. So she did, her feet stepping carefully over the floorboards to avoid any noise.
"Apollo what are you doing here?" He disappeared into the room that used to be his. The room that no one dared to touch ever since he had died. Who knows what could be in there?
But Athena followed him anyway. She shut the door behind her and tried to adjust to the darkness.
She shone the torch over to where he stood, he was rather pale. Very ghost like.
"Down there" he nodded to his drawers which Athena reluctantly opened.
In the drawer, she found a box. Which she lifted carefully with both hands, realising it was Apollo's box from when he was a child.
She opened it, luckily it was unlike hers, it didn't make a sound. But inside lay a small green stone.
Athena's eyes widened as she recognised it.
"I need you to bring me back, Thena" Apollo knelt down
"I haven't got any magic" she shook her head "I would if I could"
"You don't need magic with the stone" he said, "you just need my remains and some boiling water to dissolve the stone in"
"Your remains? They are still downstairs?" She asked
Apollo nodded.
Athena breathed. "Okay" she smiled at him, the thought of getting her brother back made her so happy. "I'll get your remains and then I'm getting out of here" she said lifting her things up
"See you soon" Apollo said as Athena left the room and went downstairs.
She skipped Elijah and went straight to the basement, he didn't have to know just yet.
Back down in the basement, she saw the small path to the cell. It smelt musty, and as if someone had died in there. But someone did die in there.
"Bones" she said as she knelt down and collected them, balancing them in her arms along with the other things she collected.
Athena turned around as she went to leave but immediately came face to face with Elijah.
"I was looking for you upstairs, I thought you'd gone" Elijah spoke with relief. The feeling that she had gone somewhere that he didn't know about made him feel sick.
He could feel Athena's breath on his lips as she raised a finger and pressed it against her own. Her lips trembled and he could see tears already pooled in her eyes.
Elijah felt confused on what she was doing, and then he heard it.
The door slammed shut upstairs.
Arcadius was home.
