Sabs gets in the house leaving me with Vuyo. “We didn’t check in, did you sleep well? How was your day?” Vuyo.
“I slept well, my day was great, how was yours?”
“My day was good, seeing my grandmother happy, makes me very happy. Thank you for being patient with her.” Vuyo.
“I think you must thank her for being patient with me, it took me a while to get the mat right.” He laughs.
“I doubt, Matshepo still can’t make mats.”
“I should get inside and give you this dress, but I love it. Sorry.” My phone rings, it’s Oratile.
“My favourite brother, how are you?”
“I don’t have money Ore. What time am I fetching you from the airport?”
“I don’t want your money, I got a man now and he provides. Don’t fetch us, he got us a driver.” I laugh.
“Simpiwe, don’t piss me off, what man now?”
“Don’t call me that, I’m busy now. I will call you later.” He hangs up and video calls me.
“Whose car is that?”
“Abuti, I only answered out of respect. Our flight leaves at 6pm. I will talk to you later.”
“Lereko and I will find that boy you are with and..” I hang.
“Sorry about that, deputy dad takes his role seriously.”
“If I had a sister as beautiful as you, I would also act like a dad. The dress you can keep, and take it back to Mawe when you visit her.” Vuyo.
“Please send me the location, I will visit when I come back from home.”
“Can I drive you to the airport tomorrow?”
“Yes thank you. Will your girlfriend not mind or are you bringing her along?”
“If you want answers, ask me direct questions.” We both laugh, Jr calls him and Vuyo says he needs to leave. He gives me a hug and drives off.
“Uyajola wena, your brother’s called me asking for information.” Sabs informs me as I enter the house.
“Ai leave me alone, have you packed?”
Sabs laughs, I unfold my mat and take pictures then post on my social captioned gifts by uMah. It’s not even a minute and the trolls start, I turn off the notifications. Lewatle calls me asking where I got the gifts. I laugh at her until she hangs up. Vuyo calls.
“Vuyo, how are you?”
“I’m okay, I’m home safe.”
“Thank you for letting me know, where’s my bestie?”
“She is drinking tea. I love the song your are playing.” Vuyo, I am listening to Langa Mavuso’ Mvula.
“Its also my favourite jam, we can play it to the airport tomorrow. Do you have a girlfriend?”
“You can ask me tomorrow.”Vuyo.
“Okay, I’m single, got out of a bad relationship that killed my son, a few months ago.”
“I am so sorry about your son, are you okay?” Vuyo.
“I am getting better. I need to go, I will see you in a few.”
“I love your profile picture by the way.” Vuyo.
“Thank you. Good night.”
“I’ll be there at 4pm.” Vuyo.
“Bye.”
Vuyo hangs up and sends me a picture of a woman wearing the dress I have on. “You reminded me of my late mom in that dress.”
“She is beautiful, I am honoured to be in her dress. Thank you.”
“Your bestie thinks we are dating, she said I will only get mama’s clothes when I bring a woman to meet her.”
“Bestie knows, I’m hers for life. I mean did you see how beautiful my mat is?”
“Lucky you, rest beautiful.”
Sabs and I get in bed on our phones. I sleep an hour later. Sabs wakes me up at 10am to prepare for our trip back home.
