Leah's excursions into Barty's room became a daily occurrence. Leah noticed that Barty had less nightmares when they spent the night together and when he did, Leah could calm him like nothing else could. And then every morning at sunrise, Leah would sneak back into her own room. No one suspected a thing.
Leah nearly forgot about the outside world. Rumors were flying but no one dared to openly oppose the Minister. She was delighted to find out that Harry Potter was facing expulsion from the school.
One day, Voldemort summoned Leah to him. She bowed before him.
"Lucius has business at the Ministry tomorrow. You are to go with him," he told her.
"Why?" she blurted. He gave her a cold look.
"Because I command it!" Leah looked at the ground. "Very soon, I will take over the Ministry. I need people I can trust to run it."
"So you're going to make me sit behind a desk all day once you do this?" The words where out of Leah's mouth before she could stop them. She forgot that she could not talk to her father the way she could everyone else.
Voldemort rose slowly from his chair. Leah knew she was going to be punished. "You will do as I order and not question it." His voice was quiet but full of malice.
"Yes, My Lord," Leah said obediently.
The trip to the Ministry was dull. Uncle Lucius introduced her to politician after politician, but unlike with the Death Eaters, she didn't bother to remember their names. She wasn't even interested when she met the Minister, though Uncle Lucius assured him that Leah had an interest in coming to work for the Ministry when her final year of Hogwarts was over.
"The highest grades of her class since her first year," Uncle Lucius assured the Minister. "Best O.W.L. results I've ever seen." The Minister of Magic gave her an approving look, but Leah had just rolled her eyes.
The only good thing was that Leah got to find out the result of Potter's trial and was infuriated that he got cleared.
When September first was around the corner, she found herself in the garden with Barty, saying good bye.
"Promise me you'll stay out of trouble?" Leah asked, looking up at him.
"I like a quiet life, you know me." He smirked at her.
"I don't want to hear you're back in Azkaban, or worse." She saw him pale at the mention of the prison. "Sorry."
"I'll be fine, I promise. You need to watch yourself too." He stoked her forearm where her Dark Mark was hidden by her shirt. "Keep it hidden, or you might get to experience Azkaban first hand." He leaned down and kissed her gently on her lips. Leah closed her eyes, savoring his taste, his scent. Then too soon it was over and Barty was gone, leaving her to stand alone.
Leah detested having to go back to Hogwarts. She had begged her father to let her stay behind, but he insisted that she complete her final year of education.
On the train ride to Hogwarts, Leah, Damian, and Savannah joined Draco and his friends in their compartment. Amber and Lulu had gone off in their own. Leah had her head against the window, thinking longingly of the secret hours she spent with Barty.
"What's that?" Draco's voice made her jump. He was pointing to her collarbone. Savannah giggled and handed Leah a small mirror. On her collarbone, Leah saw, was a small but dark bruise.
She blushed and fixed her shirt to cover it. "Nothing."
"Bloody hell Leah, you don't let that man touch you, do you?" Draco sounded disgusted.
"That's none of your business," she snapped at him.
Draco did not pester her again, but the rest of the ride he kept sneaking glances at her. Leah ignore him.
Nothing exciting seemed to happen all year. Leah despised Umbridge, even though she favored the Slytherin students. Leah thought she was a total hag. She didn't even jump at the chance to join her Inquisitorial Squad like Draco, Amber and Lulu did.
The only good news that Leah got was the mass breakout from Azkaban. That meant her mother was free at last. She remembered sitting at the Slytherin table in the Great Hall, gazing down the the Daily Prophet as her mother's picture took up most of the front page. She had of course seen pictures of Bella in Malfoy Manor, but Leah felt her heart swell with happiness at the sight. She didn't care that Azkaban had withered her mother's looks.
She glanced up at the staff table where Umbrigde sat, frowning at her breakfast. Leah smirked.
All year, Leah kept her eyes on Potter. She knew if her father's final plan to steal the Prophecy, but her orders were to stay at Hogwarts, which just made her angrier.
Haven't I proved myself already? she thought angrily.
June approached, which meant Draco and Amber had to settle down for their O.W.L.s. Leah was just eagerly waiting for the year to end. So far, her father's attempts to steal the Prophecy were unsuccessful. But Leah knew he was planning a full scale attack, involving many trustworthy Death Eaters, including her mother and uncle.
She wanted nothing more than to be with them. Maybe if she was, the outcome would have been different. Her father failed to get the Prophecy, it had even got smashed. Many Death Eater, including Uncle Lucius were sent to Azkaban. The only good thing was the Lord Voldemort was finally out in the open.
On the night before they were to return home for the holiday, Leah confronted Draco.
"Watch yourself."
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Draco huffed, drawing himself up to meet her eyes.
"The Dark Lord will take his anger out on you for your father failing to get him the Prophecy."
"Is that a threat?" he snarled at.
"Take it how you will," Leah shurgged and turned to walk away, only to find herself face to face with Pansy Parkinson.
"I don't like your attitude," she said to her.
Leah arched an eyebrow. "What gave you the idea that I care what you think?"
Pansy's pale face flushed. "You're rotten to the core. You can't even treat your cousin with respect."
Leah took a threatening step towards her. She was at least half a head taller than Pansy. "Don't talk about thing you don't understand, Parkinson," Leah snapped at her. "You're the one with no respect. You're a complete cow and if Draco had any sense, he'd drop you and find someone worth his time."
"That's rich," she scoffed, gaining her confidence again," coming from someone sleeping with a 33 year old man."
Leah looked at Draco over her shoulder. At least he had the sense to look ashamed. She looked at Pansy again. "Keep your nose out of my business if you like the way it looks."
"You can't speak to me like that!" she shrieked. "I'm a prefect! I can give you deten-"
She never got to finish her sentence. Leah whipped out her wand and sent Pansy flying through the air. She landed harmlessly on the couch, but as she stood up she looked ruffled and her face was contorted in rage. Leah turned around to see Amber and Lulu giggle at the sight of Pansy. Draco looked dumbfounded.
Before she lost her temper anymore, she left the common room. Amber followed her.
"Lele!" she called after her.
"I hate it when you call me that," Leah groaned.
"Where are you going? You haven't finished packing."
"I have to send a letter," Leah replied curtly.
"Why? It's the last day before the holidays."
"There's something I want to do right after we get home tomorrow." Leah's face was set as she continued up the hallway to the Owlery.
"And what's that?"
"I want to change my last name to Riddle." Leah grinned, completely unaware that she left Amber standing in the middle of the hallway, staring at her.
