Barty pulled Leah close as Voldemort stormed into the room.

"Where is he?" Voldemort demanded.

Bella dropped to her knees at her master's feet. "My Lord, I'm sorry," she sobbed, "but the Potter boy escaped thanks to that filthy little house elf."

Voldemort screamed his rage and brought his wand down upon Bella. She screamed in pain.

"Barty," Leah whispered over Bella's screams. "Go, you had nothing to do with this." Barty started to protest but Leah's look silenced him. Unknown by anyone, he snuck back up the stairs to their son.

Bella's screams continued, setting Leah's nerves on edge. Finally, he ended the spell, leaving her panting and close to tears on the floor. She had never seen her mother look so weak. Voldemort paced the room, finally stopping in front of Leah. "I gave you one job," he whispered, putting his snake like face close to hers. Leah's heart skipped a beat in fear. "Capture Harry Potter and bring him to me." His voice was deadly quiet as his red eyes bore into her green ones. Leah did her best to empty her mind of all thoughts. Her fear kept her mind fairly numb. "One job, Leah. AND YOU FAILED!" He hurled those last words at her.

Leah opened her mouth, a vain attempt to defend herself, but she found no words to say. He was right, she had failed him. On purpose. She was worse than dead now. Voldemort shrieked and flung his wand at her. Her body jerked back, slamming against the opposite wall. Stars danced in front of her vision as her head cracked against the stone. She vaguely heard the screams of other people being tortured. Trying to blink the pain away, she managed to get to her feet. Voldemort's temper seem to have abated some, though every person in the room bore signs of his fury.

"What happened to your face?" he snapped at Bella, eyeing the dried blood on her face.

"Ask her!" Bella shrieked, pointing at Leah.

Once again, Voldemort turned his hateful gaze to her, waiting for an explanation. "I aimed a curse at the Mudblood," Leah said, meeting his eyes yet sickened by what she was saying. "Mother was holding her and my spell missed and got her instead."

Leah felt no remorse for what she had done to her mother. Everyone thought Leah had done it on accident, but Leah had done it very much on purpose.

"Let me hurt her," Bella whined. Leah was used to this kind of treatment from her mother. Secretly she wondered if Bellatrix was jealous of her daughter's status.

"Do what you wish." Voldemort said coldly.

Bella giggled and stepped forward. She slashed her wand through the air. Leah felt hot blood trickle down her face as her mother opened up a cut on her face. Leah flinched but did not raise an objection. She deserved this pain, even if it wasn't for the reasons her mother believed. Bella opened many more cuts on Leah's body, until Leah sagged from loss of blood. Strong hand caught her and she caught the scent of Daniel's cologne.

"No," Voldemort hissed. Daniel gently lowered her to the ground as her father stepped forward. "Crucio!"

Leah had only ever suffered the Cruciatus Curse once before at the hands of her best friend's brother. Douglas Rosier's wrath was terrible to behold, but even in her pregnancy, that pain was nothing compared to the pain she was feeling now. Her father's curse pierced every part of her body like a thousand white hot needles scraping every particle of her skin. She screamed and writhed on the floor, tears streamed down her face mixing with the blood as she wished for it to end. It seemed like hours before he finally lifted the curse, leaving Leah shaking on the ground.

No one said anything as they all left the room, leaving Leah to suffer. Blood drenched her torn robes and clumped her hair. She felt Daniel's hand gripping her sides and heaved her to her feet. With his help, they made their way to Leah's room. Barty jumped up, immediately running over to her.
