And a long month it was. Amber was generally cranky to begin with, but add the hormones that pregnancy brings, and she was downright unbearable. Leah couldn't stand having to take care of her for a month, but she knew that if she defied her father's orders, things would just get worse.
When it was finally time for Amber to deliver her baby, Narcissa and Daphne helped. Leah had spent the past month reading up on baby delivering, so she felt confident. She had finally coaxed the father's name out of Amber, Theodore Nott, who Amber had gone to the Yule Ball with. Leah didn't know but about Nott, but at least he came from a good family, even if he didn't know he was a father.
When her baby was born, Amber didn't even want to look at her little baby girl. Leah cringed inwardly. She couldn't imagine life without her son, but here was her sister, throwing away her daughter like she was nothing more than a lump of meat. Leah took the matter into her own hands, naming the baby Arya. She took care of her niece like she did her own son. Amber stopped meeting her eyes.
Leah was now fully convinced that her father would unleash her to the world now. Isn't that what he had promised? But a week had passed and Voldemort ignored her. Anger was starting to bubble on Leah's surface. It would not be long before she snapped at someone. However, just in the nick of time, Voldemort summonsed her to him.
"The time has come," he said softly to her when she stood before him, "to take down the Ministry."
Leah kept her face neutral, but her heart pounded with excitement. "And what am I going to do?"
"You are going to come with me. I am going to see to the Minister personally. He has information that I want."
"When do we leave?"
"In an hour." Voldemort dismissed her. As soon as she left the dinning hall, she sprinted down the corridor to her room where Barty was feeding Seth. Arya was sleeping.
"I'm going with father to finally take down the Ministry!" she exclaimed. "Are you going to come?"
"Who will watch Seth and Arya then?" Barty asked her. Leah's face fell. "You know I want nothing more than to come with you, but we're parents now. Sometimes we have to miss out on the action."
He held the arm out that's wasn't holding Seth and Leah tucked herself into him. She wanted him to come with her. They were a team, partners. She felt more comfortable knowing he had her back. He gently rubbed in between her shoulder blades, a technique her learned that calmed her. She sighed contently.
"I only have an hour before we leave."
"We can do a lot in an hour." He gave her a cheeky grin, setting the now sleeping Seth into his crib.
When her hour was up, Leah hurried to fix her hair and rushed out of the room after kissing Seth, Arya and Barty goodbye. Lord Voldemort was waiting by the doors, accompanied by Daniel, Savannah, Lucius, Draco, Amber, Daphne, Bellatrix, and many other masked Death Eaters. Voldemort gave his daughter a cruel look for her lateness before addressing the crowd behind him.
"You all have your orders."
Grins flashed among the crowd and the air was suddenly filled with pops as they all disapparated. Savannah grabbed Leah's hand with a small smile and twisted, bringing them both into the atrium of the Ministry. It was already in chaos. Men and woman were screaming as the mass of black robes and masks approached them, firing spells.
Leah gripped her wand. It buzzed with excitement in her hand. She pushed herself to the front of the line, so that everyone had a clear view of the Dark Lord's daughter. Many of the Ministry officials tried to escape, but they were stopped short by the spells of the Death Eaters, forced to remain on the floor. Others fled to the hire levels, no doubt to warn the Minister.
Suddenly Voldemort was beside her. The screaming got louder as he issued his orders. "Amber, Daphne, Draco and Savannah, go through each level. Be swift and silent. Root out the people who need to be rooted out, but don't let anyone know what you are up to. Leah, Daniel, Bella and Lucius, you come with me to find the Minister. The rest of you stay behind and keep this crowd under control."
Without waiting to see if his orders were being followed, he swept off toward the lifts. The crowd melted before him and those who didn't move quick enough were blasted out of the way. When their group reached the door of the Minister's office, Leah could hear himself desperately trying to barricade himself inside. She sniggered. Jabbing her wand at the door, it was blast off hits hinges. She heard multiple thumps as the Minister and all the objects in front of the door were thrown against the opposite wall.
"Where is Harry Potter?" Voldemort thundered as he stepped into the room.
"Like I would tell you even if I knew," spat the Minister.
"Leah," Voldemort said.
"Crucio!" she screamed, directing her wand at the man on the floor. Laughter echoed around the room as he spasmed on the floor. Voldemort lifted his long, slender finger, a silent order for her to stop, and she lifted the spell.
"Now, I will ask you again. Where is Harry Potter?"
The Minister's face was pale, but the look in his eye was hard as steel. "Go to hell!" he rasped. Losing his patience, Voldemort slashed his wand through the air. Green light filled the room and the Minister moved no more.
"Good news, Yaxley," Voldemort said angrily. "You've been promoted to Minister." Daniel bowed slightly, looking a little afraid to see his master in such a temper.
Leah turned to leave the room only to come face to face with a tall black man, looking murderous. Leah raised her wand, but the man scampered back up the hallway.
"After him!" Voldemort shrieked.
Leah took off, sending cursed flying down the hallway after him. He must have been an Auror because he dodge every one. Snarling in fury, she pursued him, trying to corner him. She chased him all trough the Ministry, finally ending in the atrium. Bodies littered the floor, still under the spell that bound them to the Ministry. Leah jumped over them in a vain attempt to reach Shacklebolt before he reached the fireplaces. But before she could reach him, he was gone in a whoosh of green fire.
Leah cursed loudly, causing everyone in the room to look at her. She blasted the offending fireplace to bits with her wand so that large chunks of tiles mixed on the floor with the bodies.
Voldemort stood in the middle of the atrium, looking furious. Behind him, Leah saw Amber dragging gagged victims to their father's feet so that he could judge whether they were worthy enough to spare. Leah walked over to the fountain were a small group of Death Eaters were using their wands to lower a large marble throne into the plinth. Leah took out her own wand and carved words into the bottom of the statue.
Magic Is Might.
The Ministry had successfully fallen into their hands, but Leah just felt hollow.
