THE DAUGHTER OF HE-WHO-MUST-NOT-BE-NAMED IS CLEARD!
The headline had appeared in the Daily Prophet the very next day. Leah was sitting at the white marble table in the kitchen, sipping coffee and reading the story about her trial.
"Miss Leah Riddle, 29, had her private trial with the minister just yesterday morning," it read. "Taking many hours, the two argued back and forth until Miss Riddle and Barty Crouch Jr. have been cleared of all charges.
"'We will be keeping a close eye on her and her family,' the Minister of Magic stated, 'but for now, we have no reason to believe she is a threat to us. Like many former Death Eaters, Miss Riddle deeply regrets her past actions and wants nothing more than to live peacefully. I beg the magical community to keep an open mind about this situation. While Miss Riddle agrees to have done horrible things, she is not her father, and we should not treat her as such.'
The Boy Who Lived also gave us his testament of the trial as well. 'I'll tell you the same thing I told Leah Riddle: I believe is second chances. Her apologies seemed sincere and that's all we can say for now. Only time will tell how she truly feels about her actions. So far, she has donated hundreds of Galleons to charity and has already volunteered to help for many magical functions, all to prove to us that she is no longer a threat. She wants to be a part of this world as much as any of us.'
Miss Riddle and Mr. Crouch were seen with their four children in Diagon Alley this morning, shopping for school supplies for this upcoming term at Hogwarts, where the two eldest will be attending for their first year.""We actually did it," Leah sighed, putting the paper back on the table. They had removed the protective charms from around their mansion just this morning.
"How does it feel to be a free woman, Miss Riddle?" Barty asked in a very business like voice. He tried to keep his face straight, but both of them started to laugh.
"It feels wonderful," she said contently, leaning into his arms.
"You know what this means, right?" Barty asked her. When she didn't respond, he continued. "We can get married now."
Leah smiled. "I like that idea."
Reaching into the pockets of his robes, Barty pulled out a small black box. Leah's breath caught in her throat. "How long have you had that?" she whispered.
"Long enough." He grinned up at her as he dropped down to one knee. "Leah Rosemarie Riddle, I think it's about time you married me."
Though they had been together for for nearly twelve years, this was not something Leah had expected. Barty opened the box. Nestled snugly in the velvet was a large ring. Two silver snakes with emerald eyes were wrapped around a large diamond in the center. "Will you?"
She realized how quite the house had gotten. All four of their children were staring at them, still as statues. She didn't think she had ever seen them so quiet. "Yes," she said, looking back at Barty. "Of course I'll marry you."
Everyone exploded in cheers. Seth and Arya linked their arms together and started to do a little dance, waving their new wands in the air. Barty slipped the ring on her finger, standing up and kissing her fiercely.
"I love you, Leah," Barty muttered, pressing his forehead to hers. "Forever."
"And then a day," Leah replied with a small smile.
"Sounds prefect." He kissed her again as the sound of their children's laughter echoed through the halls, the perfect start to their forever.
