Veterans should not be parents
Not because they serve the country
But because of the torments
My dad is a veteran
Does he talk about his life
How he lifted me to the sky
Or put a gun in between my eyes
Or that it's his war PTSD
That makes him scare me
In ways no child should be
Where I'm thrown into a wall
From separating my parents' brawl
They say war made you this way
But I've never nearly shot a loved one
Because I have trauma or PTSD
My dad is not a special case
Just because he's a veteran
That doesn't mean he special
Because I'm a victim too
A victim of his trauma abuse
My bruises, hidden under concealer
My memories, suppressed by stress
A veteran shouldn't be a parent
If their violence is excused by it(March 20, 2024)
