When Piper left to get the soup, I struggled out of bed and went to the closet. Opening it, I picked up both the tigers in a basket with cloth for cushions. A low growl escaped the green-eyed one's mouth. I smiled. At least they still had each other. Even if they'd lost their mom. How was I going to get them back into the wild again.
Suddenly a stab of pain hit my shoulder. The tigers jumped out of my hands and ran around the room. I'm glad the door was closed because if they got out I'd be seriously in trouble. I might even be sent to a different school.
I started getting back to bed, letting the tiger cubs chase each other around. I have to get them back to the wild sooner or later. I can't just keep them in my room forever. Piper would go crazy with happiness if she saw them. Maybe I should tell her about them and we'll both work out a plan. Then I remembered something. Piper will be back any minute and if she sees the tigers now, I won't have time to explain.
I got up again and got the tigers in their basket in the closet. Just when I closed the closet door, Piper entered the room with a bowl of soup with her.
"Jason, what are you doing?"
"Doing? Nothing. I'm not doing anything."
"Well then you shouldn't be out of bed. And you expect to get better like this?"
I wasn't sure how to answer that, " Uh...yes?"
Piper sighed and put the soup on the bedside table.
I went back to bed, sitting up so I could eat. I picked up the soup but it almost fell out of my hands. I fumbled with the spoon.
Piper grabbed the bowl and spoon out of my hands, filled the spoon with soup and brought it to my mouth. I raised my eyebrows, surprised but opened my mouth anyways. The soup tasted delicious.
"Mmm, who made this soup. Its really good."
"Calypso made it. She's able to use the kitchen without the cooking dude getting angry because she helps him sometimes and her great cooking has put her on the cooking dude's good side."
"Wow, I wish I could do that."
"Have you ever even cooked anything before?"
"Not really. But on the bright side, there's always time to learn."
"On the bright side, there's time for you to get better."
I finished my soup with the help of Piper.
Piper and I heard a scratching sound in the closet. Oh, no! The cubs! I should distract her.
"Hey Pipes, remember when-"
"Wait, do you hear that scratching noise?"
"Uh...no...what are you talking about, Pipes?"
Piper got up from her chair and went over to the closet door.
"Wait!"
Too late. Piper opened it and when she found the tiger cubs in it, squealed. This is probably the first time I've ever heard Piper squeal.
Sitting down on the floor, Piper picked one up and cuddled it, while the other jumped up to her and played in her lap.
"Oh my gods, Jason! Look how adorable they are. Where did you get them?"
"Uh..."
"And how?" She asked more suspiciously.
I figured I wasn't getting out of this, it would come to this eventually anyways. So I told her everything about all the trouble and tiger cubs, and their mother.
"The poor things." Piper's face was serious," We have to get them to somewhere safe. We can't just put them into the wild, they'd die. So we have to take care of them." Piper's face brightened up again," What should we name them?"
"Name them?"
"Yeah, since we're going to take care them, they have to have a name."
"Wait, we never decided-"
Someone knocked on the door before I could finish. Piper picked both the tigers and put them in their basket, closing the closet door. She rushed to her seat again, trying to look casual.
"Come in," I called.
Both Piper and I looked at the door expectantly. It was almost like the person behind the door was deciding if he/she should come in.
When the door finally opened... Thalia entered the room.
