I couldn't sleep. The image of her sweet body in that skimpy outfit flashed behind my eyelids every time I closed my eyes. My pants were strained and my chest felt hot. I tried to ignore the ache between my legs but I couldn't. And to think I'd be seeing her in a few hours made me groan.

I was a little jealous that Zachary tasted her lips first, and I could only hope she'd let me do the same. But then I remembered Atticus. The poor guy won't be able to get any action for a while due to how scary-looking he is.

I stood from my bed, throwing on a pair of sweatpants. I walked towards my window, looking out at the rising sun. The time in LA confused me. It was nearly 7 and the sun was just rising. I sigh softly and go downstairs, seeing the devil himself in the kitchen already.

"What's wrong?" He murmured without turning around, he was mixing something in a bowl. I grin and walk towards him, looking over his shoulder. He was mixing some kind of batter, seeing the recipe book to the side, I grinned.

"She's haunting me." I quickly scoop some batter up on my finger, shoving it in my mouth with a happy grin. Atticus grumbled something under his breath and shook his head.

"Lucky, I didn't put poison in it yet." He mumbled, making me roll my eyes. I sat on the counter and watched him pour the batter into the pans.

"What are you making those for?" I ask curiously, he shrugs and shoves them in the oven, turning to look at me. He rubbed his hands against the rag and sighed.

"Do you think she'll want us?" He murmurs, seeming lost in thought. I sighed and shrugged, hearing Zachary walk down the stairs quickly. I look at him in confusion seeing the panic on his face, I jump off the counter. Both our attentions on our friend.

"Good morning to you too-" I mumbled, only for him to cut me off, shoving his phone in my face. I took the phone and glared at him before looking at the contents of the device. My eyes widened and I showed the phone to Atticus.

"Hell no." Atticus whispered, immediately heading towards the door. I grabbed a hoodie from the couch and followed him out the door. Zachary's phone was clenched tightly in my hand. The video of a small apartment complex on fire and Brooklyn rushing inside while hauling people out of the doorway.

Why she was up this early in the morning and how she got caught up in the fire is beyond me. We jumped into the car, Zachary running out to join. Atticus sped down the road, nearly crashing into another car a few times. Zachary had found the address and put it into the GPS in the blink of an eye. Once we got there, there were helicopters, fire trucks, ambulances, police, etc, surrounding the area.

We rushed out of the car, Atticus going over to one of the police officers. There were a fair few people outside the building coughing from the smoke. Zachary and I spread out to look for Brooklyn, scanning the crowds for the sight of our angel.

Atticus whistled, catching our attention. He pointed inside and then to an ambulance before running inside. I understood immediately and ran to a paramedic, telling him to get out an oxygen tank in case of an emergency. I stared at the burning building, waiting to see Atticus or Brooklyn walk out. My heart stopped at the sight of Atticus rushing out of the building coughing, our girl limp on his shoulder.

On his hip was a little boy holding a small dog, no doubt the reason she ran inside. The paramedics rushed over to him, taking the two of them from him. They hooked Brooklyn to an oxygen pump as they laid her on a gurney. Her clothes were charred and her face was dusted with charcoal.

Zachary and I rushed over, staring down at her as they hoisted her gurney into the ambulance.

"Are one of you family or a loved one?" A paramedic asked us, looking at the three of us. Zachary looked at me then Atticus, shaking his head.

"You go, we're gonna stay here to make sure everyone's okay then we'll go to the hospital." Zachary said, pushing me towards the paramedic. I nod and jump in the back of the ambulance, sitting beside Brooklyn.

The whole ride to the hospital was tense, I stared at the subtle rise and fall of her chest, making sure she was still breathing. My throat felt tight and my gut felt weak. I've never felt this way for someone. Let alone someone who wasn't even mine.

A long while later, I was sat in the small hospital room beside her. They had cleaned up her face and arms and kept her connected to fluids and oxygen. I watched her face flutter softly, her eyelids slowly opening and focusing on mine. I gave her a soft smile and leaned forward, brushing her hair from her face.

"You had me worried, I saw the news and I thought the worst." I murmur, she blinks softly, not able to speak just yet. Her eyes run over my face, then a smile takes over her features. She lets out a small cough before trying to sit up. I help her up, adjusting her pillows behind her.

"I hope this doesn't mean we can't have tacos." She croaks, making me laugh. I shake my head and stare at her.

"You ran into a burning building, nearly died, and you're worried about tacos?" I laugh, making her grin. The oxygen mask blocking the beautiful sight.

"The tacos I don't care about... I was just looking forward to today." She says bashfully. I roll my eyes playfully and chuckle. A nurse walks in and smiles softly.

"Glad to see you up. What you did today was very brave. The boy is fine, just needs to stay here overnight to make sure he's okay. You'll be able to leave in a few hours." She says, removing the oxygen mask and then pressing the stethoscope to her chest to hear her breathing. Nodding in approval, she leaves the mask off and leaves the room.

"Well, I would say that what you did was stupid but, seeing the fact that you saved someone... maybe I shouldn't go too hard on you." I joke, looking at her with soft eyes. She smiles and chuckles softly, letting out another small cough.

"You can- Never mind." Her face flushes and she looks down at her lap, fiddling with the thin blanket.

"I can what? Hm, angel?" I urge, smirking softly. It appeared like the shy little thing I knew had some dirty things to say. Or maybe that was just my mind playing tricks on me. I'll go with the first option.

"Are we still gonna get tacos or not?" She changes the topic, making me chuckle. I nod softly and lean back in my chair before standing.

"I'll pick you up at your place around 3. That gives you enough time to rest. If I find out you were up and moving, I'll cancel plans and make sure you rest." I say sternly, making her nod softly. I smile and sigh. "You have more visitors. I'll see you later."

"See you later." She murmurs softly. Without thinking, I lean down and kiss the top of her head before walking out. Not even looking back to see her reaction. I walked into the waiting room, seeing her friend and Ethan waiting. Zachary and Atticus on the other side of the room, watching me. I give them a nod before going to her friend.

"You're Brooklyn's friend, right?" I ask. He looks up at me with wide eyes, jumping to his feet.

"Yes, sir. Is she okay?" He asks in a panic. I nod and give him a reassuring smile. "Oh, thank God. Can I go see her?"

"Yeah, go on. They're discharging her in a few hours. Make sure she rests when she gets home." I tell him before watching him jump up and rush toward her room. Ethan stood to follow but I grabbed his arm.

"When she's out, keep an eye on her. She starts looking sick you call me. And if she refuses to rest, you call me." I whisper, hearing him mutter a 'Yes, sir.' Satisfied, I let him go and began walking off to the two men who took up three seats. "She's fine. First thing she tells me is if we're still going out."

"Her humor confuses me." Zachary grinned while shaking his head. Atticus smirked softly and stood. He walked to her room before I could tell him otherwise. I followed behind him to make sure he didn't do anything stupid.

He simply opened the door a little and looked in. I watched as her eyes met with his and they widened. A soft smile graced her lips. She went to raise her hand to wave but her friend snapped her attention back to him. Atticus closed the door and looked at me before we both walked back to Zachary. We left and went back home, making sure Ethan kept us updated.
