"Bye! Have fun at the concert!" I said, waving as Rory and Lorelai pulled out of the driveway. I had the couch set up for Lisa's arrival. We were going to eat a lot of Chinese food and watch all of the Disney classics, since I differed from my mother and sister in that way.

There was a knock on the door and I ran to open it. Lisa was there, holding a tub of Cherry Garcia ice cream. She was smiling. Something that I haven't seen from her in weeks.

She looked down at my clothes. "What are you wearing?"

I looked down as well. "What? It's my mom's Juicy tracksuit."

Lisa rolled her eyes. "When you said it was a casual hangout, I didn't think it was that casual!"

She came in and took off her shoes. I led her over to the couch and put the ice cream in the freezer.

"Okay, we have Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid on DVD. I couldn't get any more from Stars Hollow Video, because some kids checked them out when I got there," I said, walking back from the kitchen.

"I think that's a sign, Lucy. We're sixteen."

I shrugged as I took a piece of pizza. "It's our thing."

We started watching the movies and were silent. Once we finished the first movie, I started the second.

"You're not grumpy today," I said. Lisa looked confused. I couldn't help it. Someone had to address the elephant in the room.

"What do you mean? I'm never grumpy," Lisa contradicted. Now I was the one looking confused.

"Lisa, you've been in a bad mood all month!" I yelled, pausing the movie.

"Why are you yelling?" She asked.

"I'm not trying to, sorry. You're just making my feel dumb. I mean, you haven't smiled in weeks."

"What are you talking about?" Lisa asked. I sat down.

"Lisa, you've been in a bad mood all week!"

"You know, maybe I should leave," Lisa murmured, grabbing her coat. "Clearly, something is up with you."

I was about to call after her, but instead, I collapsed onto the couch and turned the movie back on.

I was awaken by someone shaking me by the shoulders. I looked up and saw Lorelai.

"Where am I?" I asked, sitting up. The movie was off and all of the bowls were low on snacks. I could clearly handle all the junk food now.

"You're on the couch, we just got back from the concert," Lorelai said.

"Where's Rory?"

"Asleep," Lorelai told me. "We had a long night." She sat next to me and I put my head on her shoulder.

"What happened?"

"Well, Louise and Madeline went to a college party with some boys that were at the concert, so we ran around trying to find them. Then, when we did find them, I really stepped into my role as overprotected, worried sick mother and yelled at them. I felt so powerful!" Lorelai yelled. I put my finger to my mouth.

"Sh," I said. "Sleep now."

"Okay," my mother said, gently moving my head onto a pillow. "Goodnight, Gilmore."

The next morning, when I woke up, I had almost forgotten about my fight with Lisa. It had been so fleeting, that I thought it was a dream. I mean, it was my fault. She came in, wearing a smile, talking like she wasn't angry or depressed, and I asked about it. I don't even know why I did that. It was the best hangout we had had in a while. Ever since Leo and I got together. If she was jealous, she was making it known.

I don't know why she would have to be jealous in the first place. Of my relationship? Because she has never acted jealous. Maybe she was very good at hiding her emotions.

I sat up from the couch and went to my room to get a book. Rory had gotten me started on Anna Karenina, saying that "I was ready". Of course I was. She had been building me up to this moment since I came to Stars Hollow.

But then, my motivation to read was gone when I saw a note from Lisa slipping out of 1984. It was the one where we scribbled about inviting Leo to my birthday party. Little did I know, I would be dating him soon enough. It took me back to the earlier days, which were only a few months ago, when Lisa and I hung out alone and we were just two girls laughing about boys and stupid school stuff. Now, the boys we laughed about were dividing us.

"Good morning!" Rory said, emerging from her room.

"Morning," I mumbled, grabbing the book and heading to the kitchen. I grabbed the note, crumpled it up, and slipped it into the trash.

"Oh! Are you reading the best book of all time?" Rory asked, beating me to the pop tarts.

I nodded. "I don't think I'm ready for this though." I said, even though I knew I was.

Rory shrugged. "I think I really underestimated your reading powers when I gave you that list. I haven't read those books since seventh grade. I think you can do it. You finished To Kill a Mockingbird particularly fast!"

I scoffed and followed her into the living room. "You were tracking my reading speed?"

"Of course—five days. Pretty impressive for someone who is new to reading—."

"I'm not 'new' to reading!" I interrupted. "I did a lot of assigned stuff back in Hartford!"

Rory opened her mouth. "Wow, it's like we're twins since were both readers now! Oh! We can wear matching jumpsuits and read each other's mind."

I glared at her. "Hey, that's not a joke. I knew people in Hartford who were twins...they wore the same clothes, said the same things, and had the same exact grades!"

Rory rolled her eyes. "Maybe at one point we could have been those people."

I smiled. "Reading time?" Rory nodded and grabbed her book.

"Let's do this!"

"Calm down," I said. Sometimes it was apparent that I was the older twin. Clearly I was more mature because of my four extra minutes in the delivery room.

So we sat down with our books and pop tarts and let my failing friendship slip to the back of my mind.

A/N

So, just a warning: The next few chapters get a little weird and I don't really know what I was doing when I thought them up. I really wanted an interesting plot, even though it might be a little strange. Other people might not look at it that way though. So, basically, the storyline really takes a detour for a moment at the end of the season, then I'll get back to the original story. I'm sort of excited as well, so I hope you all enjoy this bumpy ride Lucy is about to have!😁
