"Remind me why we're here?" Lisa asked me as we sat at a table, all of the fancy rich people dancing around us. So far, this dance had been so incredibly boring. I spent most of the time eating fancy small hors d'oeuvres with Leo, while Lisa tried to bag a Chilton boy. She failed. I should've told her that none of the boys were cute enough. Except for the boy walking up to us.
"You're Rory's twin right?" He asked.
I nodded. "Are you a friend of Rory's?" I smiled.
"Sort of. She doesn't want to admit it, but...," he paused for a second before continuing. "I'm Tristan. Do you want to dance?" He extended his hand.
"Oh, you're Tristan. I've heard a lot about you," I said. This was the annoying boy who pestered Rory everyday at school.
"Oh, you have?" He started to sit down next to me.
"Ahem?" I looked at Leo. "She's with me."
Tristan smiled. "I don't think she is. Also it's only one dance."
Then Lisa stepped in. "You heard him. Leave."
"I can never get a Gilmore girl," he sighed. Then, he turned to Lisa.
"How about you? Do you have a boyfriend?" Lisa looked intrigued.
"No," she said. "And I'm assuming that you are either a bad boyfriend, or you don't either."
"I'm going with the second one...even though I did come here with someone," he paused for a moment. Then reached out his hand. Lisa smiled and took it. Before walking away, she turned to my and mouthed, "your loss".
I rolled my eyes and looked at Leo. "I'm with you?"
He blushed. "If you want to."
I nodded. "I want to."
"Rory, we're going home," I whispered to my sister as she was dancing with Dean. She nodded.
"See you at home," she said back. "How are you getting home?"
"Lisa's mom is getting us and dropping us off at Luke's. Bye, Dean," I said, waving goodbye.
"Bye Lucy."
I walked back to Leo and Lisa, who were whispering with each other.
"Hi," I said. "Ready to go?"
They both nodded and Lisa checked her pager.
"She's waiting outside."
When we got outside, Lisa's mother, Octavia, was waiting.
"How was it?" She asked.
"Fine. I danced with a cute boy," Lisa said. I almost gagged. Was she talking about Tristan?
"What about you two?" She asked, clearly talking about Leo and I.
"It was boring." I wasn't going to sugarcoat it. "Everyone was so fancy and boring. The only good thing was the food." And the fact that Leo basically asked me to be his girlfriend.
"Am I still dropping you and Leo off at Luke's?" Octavia asked.
"Yeah, and I can just walk Lucy home," Leo said.
I looked at Leo. He reached for my hand. A warm feeling crept it's way up my arms to my brain. Was this real? Did Leo like me this much?
"Thanks, Mrs. Marren!" I said to Lisa's mother.
"Your welcome, Lucy. Bye!"
"Bye, Lisa!" I yelled after the car, but she didn't yell back.
"You ready?" Leo said. I nodded. We walked into Luke's.
"We're closed," Luke said. But then he looked up and saw us.
"C'mon Luke! I just need a cup of coffee," I whined, as Leo and I sat down at the counter.
"Coffee?" Luke asked, getting the pot. "You must have had a bad night. You never drink coffee."
"Well, I felt like it tonight. We just came back from Rory's stupid Chilton dance."
"It was very boring," Leo cut in.
"I can guess," Luke murmured. "Leo, you want anything?" Leo shook his head.
"Oh my goodness, Luke! This is amazing coffee! I might switch over from tea!" I wasn't lying.
"Please, no. Don't turn out like your mother and sister."
"Too late! I'm switching!"
Leo chuckled and put his arm around me. "Welcome to the "I drink coffee to annoy Luke" club."
"You drink coffee? You annoy Luke?" I asked.
"Oh yeah. He's the fourth most annoying person who comes here after your mom, sister, then you," Luke groaned.
"That must be why we work so well," I said, looking at Leo.
"God, you two are disgusting."
I look at Luke. "Mind your business, grumpy diner man!"
"Thanks for coming with me tonight," I said to Leo as we walked to my house.
"My pleasure," he said. We stopped walking. My heart started racing as he turned to me.
"Wha—?" I started to ask. I was to slow. He muted me with his lips on mine.
It was ten seconds of pure ecstasy before he looked down at my wrist.
"You're wearing the bracelet," he said.
"I haven't taken it off since my birthday. I love it."
Then, there he was, kissing me again.
"Mom?" I whispered, opening the front door.
"Lucy?" Lorelai said, sitting up on the couch. I moved my eyes to the chair, where Emily was fast asleep.
"Why is she still here?" I groaned quietly.
"She switched into mother mode when she saw that I threw my back out. Where's Rory?"
I shrugged. "She and Dean stayed at the Chilton. She'll be back soon, though." I took off my shoes and l laid next to Lorelai, on the ground.
"How was is?" She whispered.
I shrugged. "It was fine." I thought about telling her that Leo kissed me. But that would start a conversation I did not want to have right now.
"Goodnight, Mom," I said. But she was already back asleep.
"Lorelai! Lucy! Wake up!" Emily yelled at what must have been six thirty in the morning.
"What, Grandma?" I moaned.
"Rory's not home!"
