"So it's your birthdays in a week," Emily said as we ate, yet, another unidentified meat. Some kind of bland thing with wings.
"Yup!" Rory answered, poking at the bird.
"How would you two like your grandfather and I to have a party here?" I didn't want to be rude, but I did not. And I don't think Rory would either if she knew what she was in for. But Lorelai did know.
"Mom, I was going to have a party for them—," she started.
"You were?" I asked, turning over to face Lorelai.
"Well, it was supposed to be a surprise, but now I guess you know!"
"Well, I'm sorry, Lorelai. I've already started inviting my friends—."
"You what?" Lorelai yelled.
"Please, Lorelai, don't yell," Richard cooed.
"Mom, can we talk in the kitchen?" Lorelai started to push Emily into the kitchen, then they were lout of sight and an abundance of arguing took their place.
"What would you two like for your birthdays?" Richard asked, trying to take the attention off of the arguing women.
"Grandpa, we don't need anything!" Rory exclaimed. I glared.
"Yes, we do." He smiled.
"Well, tell me when you've decided!" We resumed eating. Then Lorelai and Emily came back in. They joined us back at the table.
"How would you guys like to have two birthdays this year?" Lorelai asked as we walked to the jeep.
"She wouldn't budge?" Rory asked.
"Nope! She a cold hard rock," Lorelai huffed.
...
"Well, it turns out I am having a birthday party, so you can come to that!" I said to Lisa as I sat down in homeroom.
"Great! When is it?"
"Well, my grandmother just had to have a party for us in Hartford. So the one my mom planned will only be on Saturday." Lisa gave me a thumbs up as Ms. Baker walked into the room to begin attendance.
Lisa passed me a piece of paper.
Ask Leo to come!!!!!!
I scoffed, wrote back, and passed it back to her.
Um no! I don't really know him. It would be weird and awkward, seeing how we parted ways last.
I saw her read it and she looked at me and rolled her eyes.
"Lucy?" Ms. Baker.
"Here!" I said.
"Present!"
"Leo?"
"Yup!" I turned behind me. Leo was lurking in the back seats. My heart melted. I turned before he caught me staring.
...
I was standing in the school yard, waiting for Lisa. She said she had to do something important.
I started to shiver and walk away. Lisa was taking too long. Then she ran out, waving her hands at me.
I stood still as she put on her brakes.
"I have a little secret," she said in a sing song voice.
"Oh? And what is that?"
