Today was the riverboat robbery. I prepared myself to ask Molly O'shea for help in dressing."Hey, Molly." I greeted and she looked up at me confused. "Hello."
"I- I need help with something. I was wondering if you could-?"
"Are you joking around with me?" Molly asked and I shook my head. "No, no, i'm seriously asking you." I sighed. "Look, i'm gonna be on a riverboat tonight. I was told to dress nice. I was wondering if you could help me with that."
"Dress nice how?" She questioned.
"Like, you know? High society like." I answered and she nodded. "Well," Molly looked at me up and down. She stood up. "we seem to be the same size. I'll let you borrow a dress of mine."
Molly took me to her room.
"Hello, my dear." Dutch greeted us. "What are you two doing?"
"Mollys about to help me get ready to go on that riverboat." I told him and he nodded. "Well, let me not disturb you two." Before leaving he touched my shoulder. "Get us some money tonight, Rosa."
"Will do." I smiled and Dutch gave me a pat. "Good."
He left and Molly called over for him. "Bye, Dutch."
Dutch didn't say anything back. I could just feel the tension between them.
Molly went over to her closet and looked for a dress. She scanned the dresses and pulled a navy blue one out.
Putting on a dress was surprisingly hard. There were so many layers. But thankfully, in the end, it didn't look as ugly as I thought it would.
Next, Molly did my hair. Then, my makeup. Molly was actually really sweet. I wondered why Dutch thought of her as a nagging woman. I didn't expect to spark a conversation, but we did.
"So..." Molly finished applying something on my eyes. "what do you think? Of Dutch?"
"Of- of you and Dutch?" I asked and she nodded. "Yes, of Dutch and I."
"Well..." I sighed. I didn't know how to phrase what I was about to say. Molly was sensitive. If I said the wrong thing, she would probably storm out or something. "I think... I think you deserve better."
Molly opened a blush of some sorts. "How do you mean?"
"Well, I know what it's like to want Dutches undivided attention." I told her. "But that's not him. He's too busy worrying about plans and the men in the gang."
Molly began applying the blush softly.
"Dutch doesn't have time for romance. Not like you do. You're young. Dutch- Dutch is busy thinking about other things. You deserve someone who wants the same things as you."
Molly was silent.
I sighed. "I used to see this girl, her name was Marjorie. She was a sweet girl. She would always tell me how much she loved me, and i'd say it back, but I never meant it. I didn't love her. And there wasn't anything wrong with her, it was me. She was too mature for me. I was busy thinking about other things like robbing and killing."
"Are you comparing me to you?" Molly asked confused and I shook my head. "I'm comparing me to Dutch. Look, maybe he'll come around. But as of right now, don't give him the benefit of the doubt. You're sweet and you deserve better."
